Under what circumstances would the actual documents be needed for examination by a news organization? And wouldn’t they only be printed out from electronic data files anyway?
It could have been a sting, but I wouldn’t know.

About the only reason to send the originals is for handwriting analysis or fingerprints. Other than that, you don't even need to send paper when you can just scan and email them.

The thought had occurred to me that it was a setup / sting to smoke somebody out.
The leftists all thought Tucker was stupid for sending original documents without a copy. Fat chance of that happening.
The same leftists derided President Trump for saying coyotes were transporting Mexican children to the US because they thought “coyotes” meant animals.
