Definition
An ellipsis (plural: ellipses) is a punctuation mark consisting of three dots.

Use an ellipsis when omitting a word, phrase, line, paragraph, or more from a quoted passage. Ellipses save space or remove material that is less relevant. They are useful in getting right to the point without delay or distraction:

Full quotation: “Today, after hours of careful thought, we vetoed the bill.”

With ellipsis: “Today … we vetoed the bill.”

Although ellipses are used in many ways, the three-dot method is the simplest. Newspapers, magazines, and books of fiction and nonfiction use various approaches that they find suitable.

Some writers and editors feel that no spaces are necessary.

Example: I don’t know…I’m not sure.

Others enclose the ellipsis with a space on each side.

Example: I don’t know … I’m not sure.

Still others put a space either directly before or directly after the ellipsis.

Examples:
I don’t know …I’m not sure.
I don’t know… I’m not sure.

A four-dot method and an even more rigorous method used in legal works require fuller explanations that can be found in other reference books.

Rule 1. Many writers use an ellipsis whether the omission occurs at the beginning of a sentence, in the middle of a sentence, or between sentences.

A common way to delete the beginning of a sentence is to follow the opening quotation mark with an ellipsis, plus a bracketed capital letter:

Example: “… [A]fter hours of careful thought, we vetoed the bill.”

Other writers omit the ellipsis in such cases, feeling the bracketed capital letter gets the point across.

Rule 2. Ellipses can express hesitation, changes of mood, suspense, or thoughts trailing off. Writers also use ellipses to indicate a pause or wavering in an otherwise straightforward sentence.

Examples:
I don’t know … I’m not sure.
Pride is one thing, but what happens if she …?
He said, “I … really don’t … understand this.”

Welcome to this weekend unplugged I come to the table with a busy day ahead of me that will limit the posting with a large gap from late morning through late evening tonight where there will be no posting.

The role of Faith in my life on my mind. My big ego has caused me to consider myself the “Higher Power” even as I used the name of “The Lord” in vain in essence. I went to the religious meetings big and small like Promise Keepers and so on.

Lots of preaching and teaching about all the wrongs in others and all the ills of the world like racism and so on but my racist experience linked to an angry mind and dare I say even lust. I’m not sure anyone is ready for the hard cold truth but I have shared that Nazi Germany had “art” that was really “porn” as described by Howard K. Smith in his book “Last Train From Berlin”.

Invariably images of women without clothes were found in the pictures of the Nazi Era in Germany (and men too). From “art” parades to the mass murder of the Holocaust.

It was 50 years ago last Sunday that Janis Joplin overdosed on heroin and died at the age of 27.

There was anger and disturbance about issues and the media when Janis had some interchange with Chet Huntley on the “Dick Cavett Show” in July some three months before her death. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. also appears in this video and Raquel Welch as well. Raquel talks “compromise” and Janis is fired up a bit.....

Two months before she died in August Janis Joplin was being interviewed solo by Dick Cavett on ABC her last interview......

I was in front of the TV set in the living room, the color set 50 years ago today to watch this baseball game. My team the Baltimore Orioles facing the Cincinnati Reds. The Orioles would win the series 4-1 and a big series for Third Baseman Brooks Robinson who played minor league baseball here in York, PA and would come back to town in later years I remember meeting him on several occasions.........

A day for spiritual retreat for me but the world goes on and news that’s been under the radar for the last three days.....

NEWS UPDATE: FOURTH DAY OF PROTEST DECLARED UNLAWFUL IN WAUWATOSA, WISCONSIN TONIGHT

When the Milwaukee County District Attorney opted not to prosecute a police officer in the fatal shooting of a 17-year old on February 2nd of this year, protests were sparked.

They have been going on since Wednesday night with arrests including 28 on Friday.

At 815 pm local time, 915 pm tonight the protest in Wauwatosa declared unlawful. Mainstream media describing the protest as “peaceful”.

The protesters dispersing in the face of the police order and advancing armored vehicles.
