I'm noticing more and more businesses such as car dealerships are advertising "long weekend" sales.
You hit the nail on the head!
He is a crucial part of American history.
God Help Us!
Which is kind of interesting; Denver has been a hotspot for Columbus Day celebrations (and protests), but I haven't heard anything this year.
Portland will have to remove the great Columbus Day Storm from it’s history:)
Who wants to buy a car or a new mattress to celebrate Indigenous People Day?
...where we live (Central Texas) one sees a lot of gubbermint closures on 10/12 for “staff training” or “staff development” and for the school kiddies, it’s now a “student holiday”....
Columbus - BAD...!!!
Nah, they did a lot of notable things.
Like being pioneers in involuntary open heart transplants without anesthesia (ok just heart removal actually)
And don't forget the Indian Hair Club for Men!
How about a free pass for human sacrifice and cannibalism?
Yup. The left took advantage of the riots to eliminate Columbus day out of hatred for the one who brought Christianity to this continent.
Quit spreading your 1619 slander. Try reading for yourself:

WTH are you talking about????
I ain’t said a word about the 1619 bullsh*t....
Columbus had many flaws, but he was not involved in the sex trade.

The letter states the fact that traders were engaging in sex slavery; however, Columbus explicitly condemned those who practiced this.
That’s better than “Indigenous People Day.”
My Google calendar also changed name to Indigenous People’s Day. What gives Google the authority to do this?

Apparently there’s no way to get rid of this. Arrrrgh!
If the indigenous people” want their own day don’t try and grab off Columbus Day. Best days for Indians are...
June 25,1876. Little Big Horn. They won it hands down. No one can take it away from them.
“And warriors of other tribes now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY!”. (Apologies to Shakespeare)
OR
Aug 10, 1680. The Pueblo Revolt when the natives kicked Spanish butt all the way back to the Rio Grande.
If they are not going to keep the federal holiday, then it should be a normal work day for everyone. Columbus had his issues, but if he hadn’t made that voyage, someone else would have. The problem isn’t with Columbus. The problem is with us, the “colonizers”. The fact that we have built something marvelous here — the indispensible nation of the modern world —doesn’t seem to matter to the anti-Columbus crowd.
I bought stamps today. No Columbus Day stamps, they handed me earth day stamps.
