I’m old enough to remember when it was widely claimed - at the time - that Rove was behind it. I have no independent evidence that he was - but no reason to believe he wasn’t . I have no special respect for the character of Rove or his boss, W. For a team that had no problem with launching a devastating invasion and never-ending war and occupation based on WMD lies, smearing a rival primary candidate is child’s play.
