Kentucky and West Virginia both mostly have proprietary ignorant politics and both states, unlike much of the rest of the country, are largely stuck in a time warp and still think it is the 1930’s. They want both guns and food stamps.

stuck in a time warp
We visit relatives in rural KY from time to time.
The first trip we had no clue--drove down some very rural country roads (looking for an obscure hiking trail) and then we started to see the pickup trucks with the Confederate flags.
As with most states, there is a big difference between the urban and rural areas.
