A neighbor has been posting on a blog that the President has defunded First Responders / Fire Dept.s Does anyone have info on this? Thanks
No one will have any info, as it doesn’t exist.
It’s hard to prove a negative.
Tell that d-bag to post proof.
Cite one instance of POTUS defunding first responders.
Since these are local services funded by local taxes, your neighbor should explain what the President has to do with it?
Oh, he totally screwed Manhattan over.../S
Idiots.
First responders are funded by local property taxes.
What? Don’t tell me: Trump refused to give these states that support terrorism like Oregon, New York, any federal money and therefore Trump is “defunding first responders”. This coming from idiots who want to defund the police so BLM/Antifa terrorists can terrorize without being hassled
He might be referring to this:
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/09/11/politics/treasury-fdny-9-11-health-program/index.html
Well, he partially defunded some of NY City’s services, by moving out and taking his money with him, which won’t be taxable away from the city.
(Though he still has a lot of properties there).
Those are local/ state matters; POTUS has nothing to do with it, unless Fed Funds are involved.
CNN)The Treasury Department has so far withheld in 2020 approximately $1.5 million from a New York City Fire Department health care program
He is a liar and an idiot. You are being gaslighted.
Post the blog and we will tell him the truth....lol
That is a local decision, not a national one so its just another lie.
The Democrats plan is to reveal another rumor dissing Pres. Trump every week/day until Joe Birdbrain wins.
Like the game of telephone, your neighbor is probably hearing a garbled version of a distorted news report.
I’m paraphrasing from memory but here’s the gist.
Feds are holding up money to a portfolio that goes to various agencies. Because many of the agencies overspent, or stole, or misappropriated, etc. their allotment.
Unfortunately FDNY is part of that portfolio, and are not getting their allotment because of the malfeasance of the other organizations they share under the umbrella.
News is reporting a slanted version of this, saying the feds are witholding money from FDNY.
Maybe it’s something to do with proposed variations in funding for Homeland Security or FEMA. This piece is from a couple of years ago, but one can always find something in a federal budget proposal that could conceivably result in a local department’s not getting a new truck or something.
One of the reasons people buy stuff like this is that they imagine budget requests have something to do with reality. For example, your local school district will always say, “Budgets have been cut to the bone!” which means they asked the county commissioners (or local equivalent) for everything including the kitchen sink, a new Ford Mustang, sixteen kittens, and a full set of china ... and the commissioners said they would only fund twelve of the kittens.
In a normal world, claims are backed up by evidence. But alas, we don’t live in a normal world, and it’s not your job to disprove claims not backed up by evidence.
Taking your neighbour’s charge at face value, how many 9/11 first responders are still alive?
If a significant number of them have passed on, after 19 years, why does their fund need the same level of funding that it was receiving at the beginning?
That’s the way I understand it also. NY took the funds meant for the FDNY and spent it elsewhere, now they want more.
