David Brooks: "Hubris" For Trump To Think He Could Talk To Bob Woodward "And Not Get Hurt By It"
RCP video ^ | 9-12-2020 | Ian Schwartz

PBS NEWSHOUR ....

(snip)

BROOKS: First, the hubris to think, you could be the president and talk to Bob Woodward and not get hurt by it. Donald Trump walked right into this.

Two, the extreme cynicism of not only bumbling around in February and March, because you didn't know how serious the pandemic was, but the confirmation that you did know, and you still thought you could talk it down, as if you can talk down a force of nature, and that this — you wouldn't end up getting caught.

So, there's just a level of cynicism that's been revealed, more than just incompetence.

And then, finally — and, to me, this is most revealing, I guess — is the idea that, if you had told the American people the truth, they would have panicked.

It betrays a disregard and a condescension toward the American people which is totally ridiculous.

And so I do think there's new stuff here, as there was last week in the Jeffrey Goldberg piece about what he said about the war dead. There's just a continued display of mischaracter, of poor character, immoral character.

As for whether it will hurt, .... And the thing I would like to emphasize is that a lot of voters have given up on politics. They're what we call low-information voters. And the emphasis there is on low. They have written off politics. They're not paying attention to any of this. They will probably never hear of the Bob Woodward revelations. And so we have a race that is locked in stasis.

But the bad thing for Donald Trump is, he's only got a few weeks left, and this was yet another week of crisis and scandal that he was not catching up.

"Hubris" For Trump To Think He Could Talk To Bob Woodward "And Not Get Hurt By It"

It's probably hubris to think he had an understanding with Woodward and that he'd abide by it.

Was President Trump promised something for agreeing to do the interview, and did Woodward renege on it?

This is the kind of bullshit you get when these clueless idiots write their scripts before everything has already been debunked.

Yeah...

Poor old dumb Trump.

He really needs to be coached by .....who?

Have none of these “helpful” advisors noticed that he is a master at setting traps?

Trump was probably as polite as possible to him because he didn’t want the man to stroke out right then and there.

It will however erode any credibility left of Woodward.

How does this harm Woodward?

No one's questioning his credibility - he has it all on tape.

“if you had told the American people the truth, they would have panicked”

One could argue that many people panicked anyway because they were fed panic-inducing claims by the media.

That he is not much of an investigative reporter!

The President sat down with Woodward 18 times and Woodward had months to research and write a book and the best bombshell he could come up with was something the President had admitted publically months ago.

Woodward is living in the past. He was part of a team that brought down an President and he is forever trying to do it again... well, again he has failed.

That is how it hurts him.

The left may still love him but no one else cares what he has to say or write about. He will not be remembered after he is gone other then a foot note in Nixon biography.

The exercise of power is not a parlor game. You must know and deal definitively with enemies.

trump is complete failure at it.e.g actions he failed to take on day one:

firing all us attorneys.

firing ag/cia/fbi heads

EO reversing DACA

stop invasion via programs like h1b

start investigating all tech/social media companies

voter fraud investigation

Trump-—and don’t get me wrong in how I say this-—is like Jesus in that he thinks it never hurts to get his message out to anyone.

Last week, Rush explained that Trump’s eternal optimism makes him believe he can get people to like him, and bring them to his side. Trump still hasn’t figured out that demonic control is in action her, and Trump isn’t strong enough to fight that.
