My uncle showed me how to sight in my rifles. He'd lock them in a holder of sorts then remove the bolt and sight down the barrel lining up the black dot/circle; then adjust the scope cross hairs to that. He'd next fire a shot and see where the bullet landed and then re-adjust the cross hairs over that hole. Worked every time - always sighted to 100yrds.

looking down the barrel and matching the sight reticule to that is “boresighting” simplicity it self, but mot always possible on some rifles
