Generally, if you go county-by-county...the northern two thirds of New York go Republican (at least in Presidential voting). Some of the counties in the western part of the state are exceptional strong states for GOP voting. It’s the ten or so counties around NY City....that are exceptionally Democratic in voting.

So the bigger question here....who are these one-million leaving? Are they mostly all city residents, or are there some rural New Yorkers in the mix?

For this 2020 election, I would suggest this moving business probably only lessens the Hillary 2016 4.55-million vote by 200k votes. But for the 2024 election, if this trend continues....it’d probably would be a marginally red state.

The Lindsay yearas were bad. They got Beam, tehn Koch. Even though he was a Democrat, Koch was a pretty good mayor who made progress and made teh city better than Lindsay had had it.

Dinkins utterly wrecked the place. He was followed by Giuliani, the best New York mayor of my lifetime. I have my problems with Bloomberg, but not in terms of keeping order or keeping the city clean.

My view is that Comrade DeBloodio has overplayed his hand, and New Yorkers will react by electing someone sensible who can clean up and keep order. They may be liberals, but they’re not stupid and they’re not suicidal.

Sort of. The boroughs are technically counties, and by state law, each county must have a county executive. But the boroughs have no power,so the county executives, called Borough Presidents, sit in Borough Hall collecting a salary and plotting a run for mayor. They have a few ceremonial duties, and that’s it.

What New York needs is a good dose of devolution. Devolve a lot of power on the boroughs (counties.) Why have a massive school district with so many kids in it when you can have five? Perhaps they could have their own sanitation contracts, and perhaps even a borough police department to complement and partially take over for the great NYPD.

This would also have the benefit of mitigating the power of the city public employee unions.

It would bring government closer to the people, and you could find out if that person sitting in Borough Hall is actually competent to be mayor.

It would require rewriting the charter, but it would be worth it.

They’ve already turned Westchester and Nassau blue.

Broadway will reopen early next year, as will many restaurants and many new ones. There are still plenty of stores of all kinds and varieties.

Brooklyn was incorporated into NYC by the Greater New York Act of 1898, which was only approved by the voters of Brooklyn by a few hundred voted.

If it were still a separate city, Brooklyn would be the fourth most populous city in America, and New York (with the four other boroughs) would still be #1.

Portland residents prove you wrong.

It already is, hence the Boroughs.

What's taking place in NYC and other large cities is merely a symptom of a much wider problem facing our nation. That is; we've turned our backs to God, allowed the murder of innocents, and encouraged other nations to do the same in the name of sustainable development. We corrupted the minds of our children in our public schools and set one group of citizens against another. America has strayed far from the path our founders put us on. If we don't change our ways, VERY SOON, all living in this land are doomed to live through Revelation 18:4 - I'm afraid, since president Trump can't save us, we have to save ourselves. And that starts at the individual level. Our form of government of the people, by the people, for the people, "was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." - John Adams
