Born in Michigan and died in Toccoa, Georgia (the town which lent its name to the nearby training camp for the 101st Airborne, Band of Brothers fame) in 2004. What a story!

Fort Beryle has a nice a ring to it. After doing some reading about the Confederate generals for whom our military bases are named & their views on the preservation of slavery, I’m thinking it’s time to find some WWI & WWII heroes for who to rename the bases. Don’t forget history, but move forward when necessary & hold in remembrance both the bad & the good as lessons to be learned from.

That would be my interpretation of that picture, but according to the government archive, he was at Stalag 3C. Maybe processed then transferred?
