(CU News) - Joseph R. Beyrle was the first paratrooper to land in Normandy and the only soldier to fight for both the United States and the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany. Beyrle survived interrogation by the NAZI Gestapo and escaped from German prison camps three different times. Joe Beyrle was married in the same church that held his funeral years. His life is the stuff of legends; And that life largely centered around the 101st Airborne Division. You see, Beyrle served in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Division. He specialized in radio communications and demolition.
Before Beyrles journey started, he was already involved in specialized missions. Stationed in Ramsbury, England, before the D-Day landings, Beyrle ran missions behind enemy lines. Twice, he was flown into German-occupied France and parachuted down with valuables for the French Resistance.

Airborne—All the Way!
Boy, Joe looks like he has an attitude problem in that pic;) .
I wouldnt mess with him even in his eighties
There’s certain old men who you just know from their look.. stay in line.
The real Captain America
Fort Beryle has a nice a ring to it. After doing some reading about the Confederate generals for whom our military bases are named & their views on the preservation of slavery, I’m thinking it’s time to find some WWI & WWII heroes for who to rename the bases. Don’t forget history, but move forward when necessary & hold in remembrance both the bad & the good as lessons to be learned from.

Epically poor writing and editing.
That would be my interpretation of that picture, but according to the government archive, he was at Stalag 3C. Maybe processed then transferred?
Maybe you should move to Portland or Seattle where you might feel more a part of the community.
I wondered the same thing: Was that a German pic?
yawn
