As I was rolling the scenes of the riots around in my mind, thinking what can we do, what can help --- I came up with an idea. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, no one in the offices of the DC elites seem to be answering phones anymore, and all the voice mails I got when I tried to call were full. So I am shouting this out to the wind, and hoping it lands where it should:
In order to catch bank robbers, banks put a little exploding dye ball in the money bags. When the thieves open the bag, the dye ball explodes and marks the money and the perpetrator. Easy identification.
Just as in the above example, the bad actors in a group of "peaceful protestors" need to be identified. I suggest that police need to shoot the bad actors with dye balls from a paintball gun --- non-lethal, and easy identification of the perpetrator hiding in the crowd.
It requires no new technology --- a variety of paintball guns are readily available everywhere.
It requires no new training --- any officer that can shoot a standard pistol or rifle can shoot paint balls and/or dye balls.
It is non-lethal --- paint balls/dye balls may sting but they do less damage than rubber bullets.
It allows the officers to stand away at a safe distance and still mark the target for apprehension.
It destroys the anonymity of Antifa or other instigators within the crowd.
And, if we wanted to get fancy, we could load the dye balls with a dye or paint that would shine very brightly under the streetlights --- no place to hide.
I know there are likely reasons why this wouldn't work or why the police wouldn't want to do it, or they probably would be doing it already. But if it can identify and lead to the arrest and conviction of just one more criminally destructive anarchist, one more thug who injures a police officer, one more psycho socialist/marxist that attacks innocent people --- well, why not give it a try.
I was thinking more of the federal police that are there to protect the federal buildings and statues on federal property. They have their own set of prosecutors and courts -— so local attitudes are moot.
Sounds like a good plan. A few enhancements as suggested; odor and fluorescence, unique color or odor characteristics that would distinguish from counterfeit paint markers.
Both of those paint balls are available. One type is clear, but is fluorescent under black light and possibly street lights. Pick them up as they leave the riot area.
