Not to count our chickens before they hatch, but Seattle is poised to actually follow through on a progressive revenue option. Or three. As long as the council doesn't pull some of that 2018 head tax nonsense.
There are multiple tax options that the Seattle City Council is considering: Councilmembers Kshama Sawant's and Tammy Morales' Tax Amazon package or Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda's JumpStart Seattle plan. And, it looks like Councilmember Andrew Lewis just introduced a capital gains tax proposal:
Councilmember Andrew J. Lewis @CMAndrewJLewis 1/ We live in a time of enormous inequity and our regressive tax system isn't helping. That's why I am introducing a new 1% tax on capital gains. Let me tell you a bit about it..
There's an economic disaster looming for Seattle - and Washington state as a whole - with city budget holes estimated in the $300 million range, state budget shortfalls nearing $9 billion, millions still unemployed, and COVID-19 still at large. There has to be a solution and the Seattle City Council will be damned if they don't figure it out. Cue: all these progressive revenue proposals.

So, you'd be happy with a perfectly even distribution of income? That would be pure communism, and that has never worked...anywhere. Any time a system allows two people to be rewarded equally without equal effort, that system is doomed to failure. History is strewn with the wreckage of such social experiments. Capitalism has led to the highest standard of living of any system ever put into operation. What we define as "poor" in this country is viewed as rich in about 2/3's of the world. Stupid goal to seek as a target...
Uh...you idiots do realize that increasing taxes is not the only way to patch a deficit, right? Increasing taxes is based on the assumption that you know better than I do how to spend my money. I disagree. Try cutting spending...perhaps starting with your salaries and benefits, since you seem to be doing a pretty crappy job.
scuttle butt is, the ‘white’ shooter was an ‘ally’ (known to the group). One victim is black male (deceased) and other unk
Police arrived and crowd didn’t want to let them in. (deceased) was flopped in a white van and transported. The second victim allegedly transported self.
This was not, as originally spread, a bunch of guys in red maga hats. This was knowns vs knowns according to one of the regular megaphone speechifying people.
I wonder what progressive option they have for this:

Good article from the Marxist newspaper, The Stranger.

So much for the big lie about the “street festival” atmosphere.
At some point these communists will just take over Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
*************
Now that would be a fascinating thing to watch but I suspect that Big Tech would simply buy them off.
Amazon owns the city council.
They obey or Amazon leaves.
Occasionally Amazon reminds them again—and then they obey again.
Amazon is holding a royal flush. The City Council has eight high.
Grab the popcorn.
“There has to be a solution and the Seattle City Council will be damned if they don’t figure it out.”
They already figured it out. Let Seattle burn then buy up all the property they can at a heavy discount.
Ah, that’s a shame...
The reason rich people get and stay rich is they know how defend their wealth. When greedy politicians call to to tax the rich the rich know how to use the greedy politicians greed against them. They buy them off with contributions also called bribes. They get exemptions (much cheaper than taxes) passed in just about every tax law. #CostOfDoingBusiness. Then as always the major part of the tax burden (again) falls on the working folks, especially on the most industrious near rich (who provide most of the jobs) who live pretty good but are not rich enough to buy exemptions.
So after the election, another set of promises is shelved till the next election. 100 years plus in some cities and states. Like Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football enough voters keep falling for it, to keep the greedy politicians in office. Rinse, repeat.
Both parties do this, but Democrats are much better at it.
Incoming POTUS Quid Pro Joementia “shoot them in the Leg” Biden the Groping Pedo will make sure all these Cities and States are made whole thanks to the United States Treasury.
(Well, thanks to the Chinese Communists Treasury)
Rich people can afford to diversify—multiple homes in different locations, including different countries.
Then they can locate or relocate their businesses to the location with the best tax/regulatory environment.
The “near rich” tend to be stuck in one location—easy targets and hurt most by all local politics.
The mayor's "summer of love" crap is just insane.
Bezos couldn’t care less about the CHAZ section of the city.
What he does care about is taxes and regulations that directly affect his business.

Bezos has 50,000 employees who live in Seattle IIRC. A town with plunging real estate values isn’t going to be popular with his people. And when people are distraught, they perform poorly.
