You were right to do that. One of my cousins traveling there said she felt like she was judged guilty for being an American. Said she will never go back to Europe again. She speaks fluent French and some Czech, the languages of our grandparents.
I once read that the majority of so-called journalists were the C and D students in school. They majored in journalism because they didn’t the brains to do anything else.
The really stupid ones go into sport journalism.
Based on my anecdotal evidence, that isn’t true. They were A - / B + students. Though that was in the 80s.
Way back in the early 1990s, I met up with some friends from Germany who were visiting my hometown in Idaho. They’d been foreign exchange students in my senior year of HS several years before. I was home on leave from the Air Force and had to head back to Davis-Monthan in Tucson. I invited them to ride with me on my return to AS. 1150 miles and two days of driving later, they still couldn’t believe we’d only driven in three states. ID, NV, and AZ.
They also freaked out when we were driving through Phoenix and the temperature read 44 Celsius.

I remember when he was allowed on a presidential debate panel, but was not permitted to ask more than 1 or 2 questions. He was repeatedly asked if that bothered him, but he refused to criticize his liberal-media overlords. He made some lame analogy to being a wide receiver in football, who doesn’t get the ball much but when he does, can do a lot with it.
