Antebellum means “before the war,” but it wasn’t widely associated with the U.S. Civil War (1861-1865) until after that conflict was over. The word comes from the Latin phrase ante bellum (literally, “before the war”), and its earliest known print appearance in English dates back to the 1840s. This reminds me a bit how “NARAL - Pro Choice America” denies that the initials NARAL stands for the National Abortion Rights Action League. Officially they changed their name, but deny that the initials stand for the original words in the name of the organization.
So Lady A will deny that the A stands for Antebellum, even though they rose to fame with that name.
Isn’t the word “Lady” somehow offensive to feminists, and if so, how do they justify keeping the “Lady” in their name?
Yeah, and then they can leave out the space and the CH.
Been calling them “Chicks with Dix” for years, anyway.
