The Minneapolis City Council president said the city is aiming to have a "police-free future" as it shifts to dismantle its police department following the death of George Floyd.
Council President Lisa Bender noted on Monday that the change will take time but said that the city is aspiring to change the department completely with the goal of eventually eliminating police altogether.
"I think the idea of having a police-free future is very aspirational, and I am willing to stand with community members who are asking us to think of that as the goal because so many folks in our community have seen us work on reform," she told CNN's Chris Cuomo.

Why would she resign? The city of Minneapolis voted only 10 percent for Donald Trump; 90 percent of the residents are in agreement with the kook left. This is reflected in the makeup of the city council - 13, of which 12 are Dems and 1 is a Green. No Rs. I’m sure the great bulk of residents are quite pleased with this type of leadership. As the adage used to say, “let them stew in their own juices”.

It seems to me that as 85% of police departments are short of officers both old and new, the problem for unappreciated police seems solvable. Politicians who badly handle police, teachers, and trash removal tend to do badly at the polls.
I see a big future in private security firms.

I think they are bluffing to gain power over the police, and if they aren’t bluffing my feeling is that the voters will notice if everything is suddenly out of control and the police have all gone to other jurisdictions.
