Because he wasn’t rioting, causing arson and breaking windows.

Yesterday we learned you can get arrested for opening a business, but not for looting one.

I didn’t watch the video, but let me guess why this guy was jailed. Perhaps he does not have a food handler’s permit or district license. Perhaps he baked in an unapproved oven.
These are the usual stumbling blocks for the private baker who wants to make some easy cash w/o a lot of red tape.
It happens at lemonade stands every summer, and parents are always ‘stunned & outraged’.
If I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will tell me.
I just wasn’t in the right mood to deal with Sotomayor.

This makes me sick. To my mind, there is no race component here. (Yes, I hear the words he's saying.)
This man is autistic, with a history of violence and a severe lack of impulse control. There are reports of his assaults on staff in the past. Why, after being institutionalized, was he diagnosed with COVID and moved to a retirement home??
There are three entities that are overwhelmingly at fault here:
- the institution he was at that moved him
- the retirement home that agreed to take him
- the state organization that oversees his treatment
The retirement home says they had no indication of his violent history. Even if he was a Boy Scout Alter Boy, why would he be moved into that environment while suffering from COVID??
This, to me, smacks of two motivations:
- Getting rid of a problem client and foisting him off onto another facility.
- Money. It's in there somewhere.
Those that are inclined to blame the father: yeah, it's possible he could have paid better attention to what was happening to his son. I know, however, from personal experience that, if you don't watch these organizations
like a hawk they will pull this crap on your family member and worse. And they won't volunteer what they're doing and, in some cases, you almost have to sue them to find out what's going on.
There are similarities between this man and my younger brother. Thankfully, my brother is not nearly as bad-- usually his violent outbursts are directed at himself, and not commonly at staff. Also, fortunately, he's not institutionalized, and we pay extremely close attention to what's going on with him.

I really can’t stand Tommy.
For those who didn’t watch it, the ‘pound cake’ being delivered by the young man was the punching of the elderly resident in the Michigan nursing home.
