This is a bit of a rant, vent, as well as a warning, it could happen to you. I really never expected this would happen. Read on.
A Wisconsin company, Milliman IntelliScript, has my prescription history and is selling that information. I found out when Lincoln Financial denied me short term disability insurance.
I called Intelliscript and demanded that they stop selling my medical info and delete MY information. They said no.
I'm a Vet my prescriptions are filled through pharmacies on military bases. There is no way they should have that information. The DoD doesn't release medical histories of soldiers and vets.
Yesterday I sent letters to and notified 4 senators, 2 congressmen, the FBI IC3.gov, FTC, and a retired judge. I also made a police report in with the Brookfield PD, the town where the company is located.
A question, Its MY information and this company is in possession of my stolen information, why cant the Police intervene and make them stop or arrest someone on stolen property charges?
That's just one of many questions but my big question is how in hell can they do this and get away with it and NO ONE will help ME with MY stolen info. It really doesn't seem to raise eyebrows. WTF over.
This is a HIPAA violation that can be reported to Office for Civil Rights (OCR) here: https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/filing-a-complaint/index.html
Thank you Unwashed I’ll get on it. BTW everyone knows this is a HIPAA violation but again, no one cares. Heaven forbid that accidentally send a social security number via email, I’d lose my job but these yahoos can do anything they want. I guess it pays to have lobbyists.
follow it up with your Congresscritter
May consult with attorney. But that co$t$. Perhaps one of our in-house attorneys here on FR would advise you?
Sue them. Easy enough.
The clue to why this is happening may be in your statement
“I’m a Vet.” I am also a Vet. From the Navy. I would suspect anything we do under the authority or auspices of The U.S. Government may be seen as Government property.
Do not forget, when we were active duty, that’s how many of us were (informally) referred to,
as Government Issues. Some of that affect may still be in play if you use VA health care services.
I am not sure what if anything can be done about it.
Ask around, though. I could be wrong.
Hipaa? That law that doesnt allow anyone you might want to have see your records have access while giving free reign to those you never would? That hipaa? Agenda 21 stuff, Trump & crew will get to it soon enough. We are all in the same boat there. Let them slay that dragon.
In all likelihood you were not aware or were not made aware of the fact that somewhere in your insurance paperwork was a notice about this data sharing.
Maybe not.
Data sharing is the standard MO in commercial insurance to protect against issuing a disability policy or life policy at normal rates to someone who is already diagnosed with a debilitating or likely debilitating (or worse) condition.
Did the VA fill your scripts at a VA facility? Or were the RXs filled by a chain? I assume the VA prescribed them.
It may be that the VA medical ecosystem (or for that matter Medicaid Medicare etc. ) is prohibited by law from sharing this data. Or perhaps it should be. If it is prohibited then either this was a one off in your case or a widespread violation.
Im sorry this happened to you.
You may have unwittingly signed an authorization at some point. The company should be able to produce a copy on request.
There are exceptions to HIPPA policies, and some of them are common and commonsense (e.g., mandatory reporting of abuse to law enforcement or transfer of care to another health provider). Perhaps there is an applicable exception in your case.

This was for the original poster. FightingKentuckian
Ive had prescriptions filled at the VA however the overwhelming majority of my prescriptions are filled on military Installations by the base pharmacy by military or DAC personnel. I’ve used Ft Gordon, Ft Hood, NAS Oceana, and Ft Huachuca. All of those are DoD and records from these places should not end up on the open market. Thats a big part of my complaint. If they have my info from these places they likely have medical info on active duty as well. That’s a YUGE breach of security, clearly an OPSEC violation.
You know your HIPAA!
As usual, we were sold a bad bill of goods with a ‘pretty name’ and face.
Deeper inside is their real meaning. People need to wake up to these tricks.
These are almost ALWAYS to gain advantage of, hurt, and control citizens.
Bumping your post, it speaks the truth!
“Hipaa? That law that doesn’t allow anyone you might want to have see your records have access while giving free reign to those you never would? That hipaa?”
I've since seen Palantir's function as distributor of said information to levels of information gatherers included private investigators who are not encumbered by privacy rules such as hipaa and who make a living doing the dirty work for insurance companies. A minority of the PI industry, I'm sure.
Please look this information up yourselves to verify.
