I don’t know - it seems like Billboard did not have (DOES not have) year-end charts for all the categories? Although, one could sift through the year-end pop for the best of different categories.

Anyway, I was thinking of a new format, which unfortunately would involve an even longer tournament. I’m thinking 11 weeks, whereas I’ve done this style which is 7. Only way to shrink it would be to have the later stages in half-weeks, which would be the easier parts to tally. This would basically be pop (except pop means “popular”, not any genre) but allow participants more selection from the top-ranked songs.

Thank you for the reply!

I was born in 1942, so I remember the POP music you have now been polling. It was the stuff that was on shows like “My Hit Parade” in the EARLY 1950s and on the radio that my mother listened to every day.

By 1955, Rhythm & Blues and early Rock & Roll took hold on us teens. ...Adults at the time mostly disapproved.

My picks (most are very hard):

2 1950 “Mona Lisa” Nat King Cole
1 1951 “Too Young” Nat King Cole
1 1952 “Blue Tango” Leroy Anderson
2 1955 “Rock Around the Clock” Bill Haley & His Comets
4 1956 “My Prayer” The Platters (wow is this hard - love both but I’ll give the finesse to the Platters)
1 1956 “Heartbreak Hotel” Elvis Presley (not my favorite, but have to have the King cut it)
2 1958 “All I Have to Do Is Dream” / “Claudette” The Everly Brothers (Decided Claudette is not so bad that it drags down the greatness of Dream)
6 1959 “Dream Lover” Bobby Darin (Love Darin, but just will not vote for a hit-man thug theme)

Hi Bob - did you deliberately leave out the Heartbreak Hotel/Singin’ the Blues contest?
