Flashback: Obama Fired Inspector General Who Pursued Ally Kevin Johnson
Breitbart ^ | May 17, 2020 | Joel B. Pollack

Democrats are outraged that President Donald Trump has fired several inspectors general in recent weeks. President Barack Obama came under more muted criticism — most of it from Republicans — in 2009 when he fired AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin, who had pursued an investigation of Kevin Johnson, the former NBA star and mayor of Sacramento, California. Johnson was a supporter of President Obama, suggesting the possibility of political interference.

And the IG position at State was unfilled for more than half of Obama’s term..

I am forced by this to believe that the corruption at the State Department was so bad that Obama could not take the chance that any corrupt, political crony he put in the IG position there would not be so blown away by the level of corruption that this person would not have a change of conscience and want to do something about it.

That, or Obama feared that the mere presence of an IG at the State Department would result in all of the decent people there submitting complaints about the corrupt practices, backed up by proof of both the practices and complaints themselves, to this IG that it would put the IG in quite a quandry.

When a Republican does it, it’s always a scandal though.

Obama’s firing of AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin was merely one of a very long line of egregious corruption by the Kenyan.
Trump’s firing of the State Department IG is the exact opposite. The State Department IG who was appointed by Obama, was totally corrupt. He should have been removed day one.

“Johnson was a supporter of President Obama, suggesting the possibility of political interference.”

This type of response, while accurate, is not helpful.

The US Constitution (are you listening, Mitt?) provides for a unitary executive. That position is called “President of the United States”. He is to take care that the laws be faithfully executed. If he does not, he can be removed by the Congress.

Under the unitary executive, there are no subordinates who are “independent” of the President and his will. NONE. Not Attorneys General. Not Inspectors General. Not the FBI. Not the CIA. None, none, none.

Members of Congress, Senators, and Article III judges ARE independent of the President and his will. But the President can hire and fire within the Executive Branch at will (except some hires require concurrence of the Senate). President Obama was perfectly within his rights to fire Walpin for any reason or for no reason.

Romney’s idea that dismissal of an inspector general, or all of them, raises a Constitutional issue simply points out how ignorant he really is.

Type Americorps into the FR keyword search. There over 100 articles there related to the firing of the IG, with the likes of Limbaugh and Malkin and the right wing blogosphere calling it a scandal.

Attention Senator Grassley, did you demand that Pres. Obama provide you with a detailed explanation as to why he fired the I.G.?

Was there a single republican senator that did?

fired AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin,

I recall this well. This event will later be on the long list of Obama's Scandals that never happened. However, as Churchill cogently observed...The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. Winston Churchill

Good for Breitbart.

I posted this several times yesterday.

Has the MSM forgotten about Obama's firing of IG Gerald Walpin only six months into office, because Walpin was investigating a friend's charity?

Thank you for the research. That must be why McConnell moved him and put Linda in his place.
