You are right. The Bible isn`t that much better though. Just take a look at Deuteronomy 13:6-10, for example. The difference is that, nowadays at least, far fewer Christians than Muslims take their book literally.
Please re-read Deut. 13:6
and read Deut. 13:11

i.e. Don't try to secretly convert any family members away from Judaism or Christianity, on pain of death. Not sure if it applies between Judaism and Christianity because it's the same book in both religions but don't argue with God. Also prior to that is a warning not to be enticed to worship other (i.e. false) gods by prophets working miracles (aka "wonders" in translation), and btw put those supposed prophets to death. This was the supposed crime of Jesus, but since it was obvious he was not trying to convince people to worship a different god, the Jewish court tried to foist him off on the Romans for treason. They probably assumed no matter what happened the Romans would execute him, even if just to keep the peace.
The age of the Internet has revealed the wealth of scholarship surrounding biblical study. Commentary on Deuteronomy is very interesting, so much that your one reference had me reading through annotations and translations for half an hour.
