That Lisa Bloom tweet is gold. If liberals had a conscience, they would wouldn’t be liberals.

So since McConnell called the Senate back for the sole purpose to approve judges then why does it matter that the House isn’t there?

Because she’s an imperious old pig who would do the political landscape a favor if she’d throw an embolism and have the clot clog up that walnut she calls a brain. If she had a CT scan, it would probably look like it was left over from the holiday nut bowl from 2007. Even the ceramic squirrel holding the nutcrackers wouldn’t touch it.

McConnell didn’t call “the senate back for the sole purpose to approve judges”.

the house and senate have differing purposes over all, both are supposed to be working for USA citizens at this time, but only one is.

Well, to most liberals, to all liberal politicians, politics IS their life, their religion. Then again, they have rejected religion, so they have no other life.

After all, the Wuhan Virus is killing mainly old people, and old people happen to be mostly Republican voters. Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer see this and their only thought is that man, this could really tilt a few congressional race in November if enough old people die in the right districts.

Well, over half the deaths are in deep blue New York State and New Jersey, with a solid chunk of New York State deaths in NYC alone, which voted for Hilary Clinton by 70%. I doubt if old folks passing on in NYC is going to do a whole lot of damage the GOP.

Schumer complains about the time in Washington the Senate must spend to go through these nominees.

McConnell and Trump should point out that for 240 years the minority party in the Senate did not require the senate to use up the maximum hours of floor debate time for every single nominee. Schumer and his party created the need for a Senate to be in session to get this done.

A simple agreement between the two parties to allow votes on many nominees without all the floor debate time and this could be wrapped up quickly.

Schumer is the one who is forcing the senate to be in session.

If McConnel wants all of Congress back in session, and Pelosi does not want that and Pelosi will not call the House back in session, then under -

The Constitution Article II Section 3

“He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.”

They keys are:

1. on extraordinary occasions (which PELOSI has decided the Wuhan Virus is making), and

2. in case of disagreement between the House and the Senate on having or not having Congress in session

Trump could totally adjourn Congress and make recess appointments.

The problem is the use by both Houses of “pro forma” sessions, where they have not officially adjourned, but are in fact not functioning.

Trump could try it and take it to SCOTUS which would have to decide (1) do they want to get into the matter, and (2) what does a “pro forma” session mean when it comes to Article II, section 3 and the executive’s power to adjourn Congress under extraordinary circumstances.

McConnell didn’t call “the senate back for the sole purpose to approve judges”.

So what else are they doing?

Nancy would rather see the country go to hell in a hand basket than give Trump credit for ANYTHING.

It’s what Communists do.

Ask yourself...what exactly can you accomplish against Trump and the GOP controlled Senate? Zero. Senate will go back to judges, and confirm cabinet posts. Pelosi and team won’t have anything to brag about for next 100 days. Try to explain that to the general public in Sep/Oct prior to the election.

they are having committee meetings - fauci is due to speak to one of the senate committees this week. I don’t know their full schedule, but they are confirming other positions other than judges. Dems have help up many nominees for Trumps appointed positions, then they want to comment on how he doesn’t have many positions filled years into his term.

I’m sure Schumer and others trying to obstruct senate work will likely sit on their hands, paly video games and call family etc otherwise do non senate business and time wasting things as much as they can just because their main focus is to not get real work done.

...since McConnell called the Senate back for the sole purpose to approve judges...

That's an assumption on your part.

The author didn't say McConnell is keeping the Senate in session solely to appoint judges, he said that Pelosi is keeping the House out of session to shame McConnell into doing the same in order to stop appointing judges.

One pathetic and disgusting aspect of this “closure” of congress is that the taxpayers are getting shafted by having to pay the congresslosers and their vast staff while they are on a many month vacation. Hey. you thieves...stop stealing money from us taxpayers!

I posted a similar point in yesterday's thread Feinstein Begs Senate To Extend Paid Vacation – Dianne Wants Washington To Stay Closed Longer:

Feinstein just wants to stop President Trump from getting his judges confirmed.

Since it's something that the House can't do, the House is free to adjourn.

But not the Senate, so Feinstein, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, complains.

Calling the Senate into session is actually independent of calling the House into session. It is entirely upon Speaker Pelosi for stalling on the opening of the House.

More foot dragging and passive-aggressive resistance.

Nancy is sure piling up the points for her side in the 2020 election. Non-performance of obligations is still performance.

But Democrats are different – make no mistake about it. They don’t care about people dying or 30 million Americans having been put out of jobs;

The media is helping as usual. Not much mention of the daily chapter 13 bankruptcies on the news, just more panic about 3000 deaths if we reopen.
