PhD doctorates were being bestowed back when medicine was being done by the local barber/bloodletter. It is medical societies that adopted the doctorate degree for their training, not the other way around.

I think most people do assume she’s an actual medical doctor. I thought so for ten years or so. Nobody told me otherwise and it didn’t occur to me to ask. She wasn’t in the news much until last year when her husband started running.
