Mark Levin Calls Out ‘Huge Scandal’ NY Requiring Virus Patients to Be Accepted by Nursing Homes

We’ve been covering the story of the unbelievable policy in New York that requires nursing homes to accept people who have tested positive for the Wuhan coronavirus and wondering why there hasn’t been more coverage of this by the mainstream media.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo denied knowing about this policy last week but his Health Commissioner Howard Zucker confirmed it was a policy.

As we reported this appears to have led to deaths in multiple nursing homes but people were afraid to go on record with their names allegedly because of fears of retaliation by the Cuomo administration.

ow the New York Post is reporting that the Health Department was explicitly warned about the deadly problem at a nursing home in Brooklyn.

Cobble Hill Health Center CEO Donny Tuchman sent a desperate email to state Health Department officials on April 9, asking if there was “a way for us to send our suspected covid patients” to the hospital built inside the Javits Convention Center or the US Naval hospital ship Comfort — the under-utilized federal medical facilities on Manhattan’s West Side.

“We don’t have the ability to cohort right now based on staffing and we really want to protect our other patients,” Tuchman wrote in a chain of the emails reviewed by The Post.

He was denied.

At the time both the Javits facility and the Comfort were barely in use and they had the capacity to take on patients. They certainly had the hospital facilities, unlike the overstrained and understaffed nursing home.

55 people have now died in that one nursing home. The Comfort meanwhile is being sent back home because Gov. Cuomo said it wasn’t needed.

In an email one day earlier, Tuchman told Health Department officials that the facility had “over 50 symptomatic patients scattered through the building and almost no gowns.”

Tuchman said Cobble Hill had been asking the city’s Office of Emergency Management “daily” for more gowns, but “gotten only a few hundred delivered.”

“There is no way for us to prevent the spread under these conditions,” he wrote in desperation on April 8. “Is there anything more we can do to protect our patients and staff? Thank you for any help you could be.”

They ended up wearing garbage bags for protection, according to the Post.

Health Department spokesperson said they had had many conversations with Tuchman but claimed he said he was able to meet the need and that he would be receiving more PPE.

While Cobble Hill is at the top of the list, it’s just one of the multiple New York nursing homes suffering deaths. Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation in Queens came next at 51, with Kings Harbor Multicare Center in The Bronx, Franklin Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Queens, and Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Staten Island, all at 45 deaths each.

From NY Post:

The state concedes that 3,448 residents of nursing homes or adult-care facilities are known to have died from the coronavirus, or nearly 25 percent of all deaths in New York. More than 2,000 of the total are in the five boroughs, and officials acknowledge that the real numbers are almost certainly higher. [….]

The COVID-19 readmission policy was adopted March 25 and was contained in a Health Department directive that says, “No resident shall be denied readmission or admission to the [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19,” Newsday reported last month.

What makes this worse? New York is not the only state employing this policy, California and New Jersey are as well, as Mark Levin highlighted, calling it a “huge scandal.”

Cuomo sees it as a win-win-win. He gets rid of old people stuck in nursing homes costing the State money. He collects a "bonus" for every COVID-19 body. And, he pumps up the total death count, because Orange Man Bad.

They should have gone to the ship for 2 weeks and had 2 negative screenings before going to a nursing home.
This idiocy has directly killed dozens of people.

A positive test puts you under house arrest to die alone. So they are going full throttle on testing.

Cuomo, for the second day in a row, is claiming that the nursing homes were free to contact the Department of Health, to have their COVID patients offloaded.

Whether Cuomo is lying or not, he should have ordered all COVID patients out of nursing homes. They are in no way able to handle COVID patients in the same building as their other frail residents.

Republicans don’t even have to screw up. Donald Trump gets blamed for what the Dems have done and fail to do. See Ukraine.

Cuomovirus-19 has been spreading into and killing innocent patients in New York nursing homes!

New York and New Jersey, combined, account for more than half of U.S. COVID-19 deaths. Both of these states required nursing homes to admit patients who have been tested positive for Cuomovirus-19.

In my opinion, this policy constitutes mass murder. (opinion by grundle)
At least these deaths are the result of criminal negligent homicide as such “mitigations” are in fact, a direct cause of those at high risk becoming infected and dying.

“A positive test puts you under house arrest to die alone. So they are going full throttle on testing.”

In some of the expensive retirement homes in California, a positive test on anybody living in the home can end up as a lock down for every person living in that retirement home.

As a result, if you as a patient get locked down, and your family and friends can not visit you.

We just had a friend, who died in one of these homes and not from the Coumo19 virus. He died from Parkinson’s and an associated CNS disease. His wife and his family had not seen him since 13 March, when the retirement home went into lock down.

Some of the ‘lockins’ are dying from boredom and lack of human contact.

Cuomo’s Incomprehensible Blunder

As the nation’s leader in COVID-19 fatalities, New York officials are searching for the factors that may have contributed to this negative outcome. One factor that may have played a role was Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D) March 25th order requiring nursing homes to admit and readmit individuals who tested positive for the virus. While the Governor tried to profess ignorance of his order, Health Commissioner Howard Zucker confirmed it.

“I know that in hindsight it looks stupid,” Zucker admitted, “but no one stopped to think about what we were doing. We thought old people belong in nursing homes. It just didn’t occur to us that infected old people ought to be kept separate from uninfected old people. As we know now, this policy was a formula for disaster. Old people are especially susceptible to infection. The death rates skyrocketed. The only saving grace is that we have until November 2022 for voters to forget about this.”

By way of damage control, Gov. Cuomo suggested that “the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for nursing home staff was the weak link in our strategy. I had to beg for these supplies from the federal government and it took some time for them to be manufactured and delivered. That puts the blame firmly on President Trump for not being adequately prepared to deal with the pandemic.” Left unmentioned was Cuomo’s 2015 decision to cut funding for emergency medical supplies from the State’s budget.

Meanwhile, paramedics in New York have been issued a statewide “do-not-resuscitate” directive. Cuomo justified this order, saying “the vast majority of the people EMTs revive end up eventually dying. Rather than waste valuable hospital space on these cases we needed to free-up beds for COVID patients.” Ironically, the 3,000-bed hospital that the US Army set up in New York City’s Javits Center for the COVID emergency remains 99% vacant.

I like this part. Its must be a hindsight thing then.
Who-da-guessed ??

There must be something that Trump was supposed to do to keep this from happening.
