You are correct. A lot of ‘50s music was very well done but derivative. That’s why there was enthusiasm for newer rock ‘n’ roll and more niche music like the new cool jazz.

These are my top Five tunes of the 1950's. The only ones that charted were #1 and #4, which is the only one to have made the Top 10.

  1. Bewitched--Gordon Jenkins & His Orchestra (1950)

  2. Stalin Kicked the Bucket--Ray Anderson (1953)

  3. Good Golly, Miss Molly--The Playboys (1955)

  4. Born to Be With You--The Chordettes (1956)

  5. Follow the Rock--The Baybops (1958)
