Dbacks 3 Yankees 2
PHOENIX This time the late-game magic showed up in the Diamondbacks dugout and it tore the heart out of the Yankees.
Asked to protect a one-run lead in the ninth, his second inning, Mariano Rivera failed because of an errant throw to second by him and giving up three hits, including a bases-loaded bloop single to left by Luis Gonzalez that carried the Diamondbacks to a pulsating, 3-2, victory in front of 49,589 delirious fans at The BOB.
Rivera, who entered the game in the eighth after Roger Clemens and Mike Stanton held the Diamondbacks to one run and matched Curt Schilling, ran into immediate trouble in the ninth.
Mark Grace singled to start the frame and Riveras throw to second on Damian Millers bunt was wide of a stretched-out Derek Jeter and went into center field. Rivera fielded pinch-hitter Jay Bells bunt and his throw to third got the first out. Tony Womacks double to right scored pinch runner Midre Cummings to tie the score, 2-2. Rivera hit Craig Counsell to load the bases for Gonzalez and he dropped an 0-1 pitch behind Jeter to score Bell and end the Yankees run of three straight World Series titles.

That game was so good as was the entire series.
Curt Schilling belongs in Cooperstown.
The sole stain on Mariano’s career.
"It's gonna take more than 9 Yanks to beat our Johnson"
I wonder how much Schilling’s political leanings will affect his chances.
