Editorial Dispatch: Give it to us straight, government:Clarity is key when living under Covid-19

Medical experts are predicting that these next two weeks are likely to be the most severe in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such it is prudent that we Americans take every precaution that will mitigate the spread of the disease.

At the same time, it is important that we not overreach or overreact in our efforts to contain this coronavirus when some of the rules and regulations should give way to common sense. Americans must have clearly defined guidelines, because the further local governments go in stringent enforcement of nonsensical or counterproductive measures, the more likely it is that all social distancing efforts will be abandoned.

For instance, last week, a man in California was spotted paddle boarding in the ocean by lifeguards. They ordered him to stop but he went on paddle boarding. In fact, he spent 30 to 40 minutes in the water, enjoying the Pacific Ocean thoroughly.

The fact that a decision was made to include both “walk” and “run” tells you that government officials — and not just in West Newbury, everywhere, — are having trouble producing clear policy. They do not want you to feel encroached upon while you are being encroached upon and thus the bizarre, incremental measures that are slowly but surely nudging us all back into our houses.

If our elected leaders want us outright quarantined they should just come out and say it. Americans have already shown a willingness to take extraordinary steps to stem the spread of the outbreak.

It does a disservice to tell Americans that an area is absolutely closed but if you can walk or have a horse it is absolutely open. The people deserve clarity because the pattern shows that authorities will enforce measures and sending mixed signals will make rogue paddle boarders out of all of us.

The president has to come clean. There is a reason for the hysteria brought on, in part, by this government.

Most of us know what it is, but it needs to be said by President Trump.

We can NOT reason for the restrictions if they wont tell us the truth.

We got through WW2, the Cuban missile crisis, 911 and all that. So give us the facts so we can sort it all out.

As one living in WA-USSR, I have been pressing Gov Inslee (aka “The Asterisk”) to tell us exactly what his exit plan is. Probably does not have one. But will it be no infections/deaths for one week? Two weeks? A month? Three months? What???

Nothing but crickets, of course. But it is like we have been thrown into prison without knowing how long the sentence is. Irresponsible, cruel, and downright mean not to let everyone know what the goal is.

Ok, I’ll tell you. The goal is to throw you in prison as long as possible without telling you what the sentence is so that Gov. Inslee, Mike Murphy and Cuomo can do their part in crashing the country and feel the tingle up their legs of absolute power.

Why are you blaming the President? These are local and state jurisdictions that are overreaching and fining people for going for a walk or a dive.

Where in the hell did you assume I blamed the president?

Can you read and think?

What I said was; The potus HAS to give us the truth, He knows what is going on and his hints as to the “Chinese Virus” gives us the fact that he knows exactly where it came from, and what it REALLY is, and how it got turned loose.

There has been no reason given for this mass hysteria other than this-its a dangerous bug, stay home, shut everything down, dont do this and dont do that.

President Trump has some very bad advice being given to him and he needs to put an end to it.

The real problem is that no politician at any level wants to be seen as “not doing enough”.

Trump, like anyone else will tell you if you just listen. “I want people to have some hope. Why would you want to take that away from them?”

Politicians sell hope. It’s what they are supposed to do. Other professions, not so much. How much would you invest with an investment advisor who told you up front, “What I am selling is hope.”?
