This does beg the question: What authority does a mayor (or any government executive) have to unilaterally suspend a citizen's right to freely move about?

I know the argument: "It's a public health issue, which gives the government extraordinary powers." But that is an assumption, not a constitutional fact. Or is it? Can a chief executive order me held prisoner in my own home on the grounds of "public safety?"

Yes absolutely, they powers that came.into effect as soon as the national emergency was declared removed a number of “rights” free assembly, free movement for starters. The supreme court has upheld this power before so filing cases is pointless the government has the power and the duty to isolate people by force at the point of guns if necessary in a pandemic. We are one declaration away from marital law which will temporarily replace the constitution while in effect. I don’t think people grasp the magnitude of the national emergency declaration and how marital law would eliminate the most of the bill of rights. Don’t go all crazy and say we will raise arms the majority of people will not side with those guys in a pandemic and you would need the people on your side to take on the full might of the American government. I was in the Army and Guard as an MP for part of the time 11 years worth my tag line shows what I did for the rest. Make no mistake the guard will at the point of M249s and M4 enforce curfew and quarantine during a declaration of pandemic and martial law. This is not an unlawful order from the government but a lawful and necessary action that will be carred out to the letter bank on it.

More to the point. It doesn’t matter how people fell or their opinions about the reaction of the government. They government that’s lawfully elected is using the powers that have been granted with hundreds of years of precedence and supreme court rulings. Zero of what any of the local, state or federal government actions have been unlawful. As soon as the national emergency was declared massive authority was granted to lock down individuals, areas, even whole cities or states. Power to halt travel international and as POTUS has said internally is on the table. 100% -of this is lawful and has precedence in past pandemics. There’s going to be trying times and people will be forced to obey and there is a subset of society that obedience will be a challenge our military is trained for this and marital law is the means to deal with that subset. As a service member of more than a decade I can assure people the modern military will enforce marital law to the letter and without hesitation in a pandemic we know it’s necessary and for the public good.

Crappy beer. If you can see through it and packaged in a clear bottle, it probably has little taste.

As a retired soldier I agree 100% with this statement. I forget who said it but “The constitution is not a suicide pact.” In emergencies the government, at all levels, have more powers and discretion to use them.

What? COVID-19 keeps office hours?

Apparently so, according to our "overlords."

NYC has also banned gathering of 500 or more people until the middle of April. More lunacy. As if having just 498 or 499 people gathered together is perfectly safe.

But the gay bars, bathhouses, and government sanctioned free needle crack houses can stay open!

Not a ‘smidgen’ of disease can be found there!

I think they spelled communist wrong. It’s not democrat...or maybe it is.

I don’t think they can really get away with that.

A couple days ago, I was at the grocery store and picked up some corned beef hash. I don’t acknowledge St. Patrick’s day and honestly completely forgot about it but the hash sounded tasty for breakfast. Had some this morning before attending TV church

Are you in Jersey? If so-I’ll watch the news. If not-well-I worked in some top levels of government for 30 years (not all 30 but the final decade at least) - and my sources tell me you are gonna get your chance buddy.

So-if you’re living out in the middle of nowhere-that’s not fair. But by all means-if you are in a good sized city-you’re gonna get your chance in less than a month. Bank it.

I have a buffalo brisket in the freezer (12 yo grandson shot it:). If I can find it in the freezer I will start corning it. It will probably taste just as good 10 days from now.

That sounds good. My wife would love that. We recently had bear tenderloin sous vide and venison bear burgers from a young bear my son shot. Those were the juiciest venison burgers I have ever ate, even cooked to 165 degrees ( because it was bear). Mix was 70% venison 30% bear.

I was debating getting a spring bear tag, you convinced me.
We have bears that makes raids in the fall. They gleaned my apple tree, broke some limbs, and destroyed the neighbors bee hives. They have been doing that for years.

Ok - point well taken.. hopefully over half aren’t stupid :-)

I think what will save us is that the Democrat candidates are so pathetic - even many of the most easily brainwashed voters may stray, or stay home.

You can add “lazy voters” to that. I’m counting on lazy from that bunch of losers.

My wife keeps bees. And here bear hunters use hounds. My saying is a good bear is a scared bear. Last spring we had new poults in a little coop outside the main coop. Young male bear flipped it over, tore it apart. In the morning I found the poults safe huddled together. A bird nest house was also ripped. The wandering bear was looking for eggs. Making a circuit of our rural neighborhood.

Two weeks later at night, we heard a crash in the back. The same bear had ripped down the sunflower feeder. Got the light and rifle and fired a round over his head. We didn’t see him again. Just like the spikes it’s the younguns that don’t know enough to survive. No spring bear hunting hear though.

Let me know how it goes and best of luck.
