Too many modern day people have never learned how to substitute other products for what is no longer on the shelves.

Walmart rubbing alcohol shelves empty, hydrogen peroxide shelf is full of their brown bottles. Both work.
No hand sanitizer, but the dish soap shelves are full.

No toilet paper, telephone books still work as do cheap wash clothes. Just launder with soap and bleach, which is still plentiful. A Koran in Arabic is made of a very pulpy type paper. works wonders.

Is no one rushing for the milk and bread as they have done in the past?

Rule #1 in ANY survival situation is not to panic.
Step back from the situation and look around.
I would say rule #2 is: Survival does not meet you have to be miserable. The object of survivalism is to be a comfortable as possible with what you have. Even if it seems like you do not have much.

I think growing up with everything you need is a disadvantage.
Amazingly, most of the so called poor have lots more than i ever did growing up.
As a result they do not have to think for themselves.
