Bernie Sanders presidential campaign co-chair Nina Turner and Democratic operative Hilary Rosen, a supporter of former Vice President Biden, argue over the interpretation of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter From Birmingham Jail" (see tweets below transcript) and his meaning of "white moderate." On Chris Cuomo's CNN show, Thursday night the Sanders surrogate and Democratic operative clashed over race and politics.
Rosen told Turner, a black woman, that Martin Luther King Jr. never said to be concerned about white moderates, he said to be worried about the "silence of white moderates.
"Don't tell me about Martin Luther King Jr. Are you kidding me?" Turner said.
Turner told Rosen not to tell what King meant and explained that the "white moderates" passage was about those who are bystanders that are okay with not changing the status quo.
"What Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was talking about, he said it is the point that the white moderate wants things to be comfortable instead of focusing in on the bigger threat is not necessarily the white KKK member but more the white moderate that is more comfortable with keeping things the same," Turner said.
Rosen, a white woman, responded by telling Turner not to use MLK against Biden, going as far as to say she does not "have the standing" to do such a thing.
"Don't tell me what kind of standing I have as a black woman in America. How dare you?" an incredulous Turner said to Rosen.
(snip)
"Listen, don't dip into what I have to say about the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr," Turner said. "How dare you as a white woman try to tell me what I'm supposed to feel and what I'm doing what now."

We just can't debate ideas any more, Leftists identity politics trump everything.
There is another clip from some months ago that is similar. Black conservative woman and white Liberal woman debating an issue. The white Liberal called the Black woman a racist.
The correct response would have been: “Don’t you as a Democrat dare try to tell me how to interpret the word’s of a Republican like MLK”.
On my streets named after MLK, they don’t even know who he was and they’d blow him away if he showed up.
DemocRATS eating their own. Delicious!
A few years ago, a sister-in-law asked me to accompany her to Arlington, so she could pay her respects to Bobby and Jack Kennedy. I noticed that Bobby Kennedy’s grave site was quite serene. Simple. On the side of an incline. At rest in an honored place. Jack Kennedy’s grave, on the other hand, was a bit of a monument, complete with an eternal flame. It looked ostentatious in that sacred place. I mentioned these things to her. She replied, when you’re the President, you belong to the country. Same thing when they make your birthday into a national holiday, you are no longer owned by a particular group. You belong to the country.
There’s good and bad when the Left rip into one another.
Good: The Left always needs an enemy to forward their agenda and it is best when they turn on themselves.
Bad: They only turn on one another when no other threats (from conservatives or the Right) can be perceived.
I side with Rosen on this one. She is pleasant and respectful. Turner is angry and insolent.
Leftists, black or white, also live by judging people based on the color of their skin rather than the content of their character or what they do ... so its no surprise some will content it was white moderates warned against rather than what some do.
The D in DNC can mean Distortions too.
Make them fight
Whites even here are daft about MLK
thats an understatement
Hilary Rosen can speak about Thomas Jefferson but not about Sally Hemmings or Tina Turner.
Nina Turner can speak about Sally Hemmings but not about Thomas Jefferson or Hilary Rosen.
Their (Jefferson and Hemmings) issue can speak about Rosen, Turner and, of course, Martin Luther King and just about everyone except Elizabeth Warren.
All's well that ends well.
Hillary Rosen - “Hello, fellow white women!”
Does she think for an inatant that anyone would remember Martin Luther King’s name if his support came solely from black people?
It was only because his message resonated in the white community that his movement gained any notice at all.
To me the larger issue is we are allowing the rats to get away with fraudulent assertion that Joe is the voice of reason moderate rescuing us from the mad Socialist. Biden has bought into virtual every extreme position Bernie has taken during the campaign. Even if Joe is just the figurehead the real power would be hard core leftists behind the scenes.
OK, that’s cool!
Now I can say the same thing the next time anybody gets up in my grill about Tom Jefferson or Eisenhower or any other white.
STFU, you have no idea what it’s like to be white.
You’re not white, you don’t get to have an opinion on that. You’re not qualified. You haven’t lived my truth. Etc.
It escapes me now, but I thought King had a dream or something, about not judging someone by the color of their skin. You know, that dream thing...
It used to be (not too long ago) when Leftists bring out sex, race, etc. (identity politics) as the last ditch swipe, you know they don’t have any counter argument.
Now the identity politics is an pre-emptive strike in any discussion amongst people. So, if you are not a Hispanic/Latino/ , you can’t talk about DACA or immigration. If you are not a LGBTQ%^$&@, you can’t talk about ‘equality’. The list goes on.
Can we use the same argument that if they haven’t lived in a communist country, they can’t talk about socialism or “democratic socialism” (a misused meaning, if ever there is one)?
Well that only lets me talk about Australians and Hungarians. Two slim populated groups. :)
