I put in 50% of my cash today, there are GREAT buys out there and the market will come flying back, providing Sanders doesn’t end up as POTUS!!!

I owned houses and land when 2008 hit. My properties have come back. I was liquid and therefore able to buy more real estate in 2010, and it is doing good. In my case, three things made this possible- liquidity, location, and luck.
I was able to rent out some of the 2008 depreciated property, and this helped. I am sorry to hear of your situation.
We are not upside down nor did we get the long thrust that those who bought in ‘06 but it ain’t quite back up to what we paid.

I got out into bonds and cash on Monday. Mid-March things should stabilize as the air heats up and the corona-flu melts away.

Dude - you had plenty of warning. I sold all my stock and went into MOney Markets the last week of January.... No one else believed the virus was a ‘thing’ at work either ... oh well ...

This is a normal market correction. One thing you should have learned during the Great Recession of 2008 is that when the market goes down it almost always goes back up and beyond.

I have been taking round trips on CVX for about 10 years. Recently it got tight. Looks like it will start cycling again now.
TLT is a hedge, when the stock market goes down like this, TLT goes up, approx half the percent drop in stocks.
So if you have 70 percent bonds and 30 percent stocks, you are more or less hedged.
But in the good years, you only have 30% in stocks - risk and return.
The Bible says, no-one knows the future so cast your bread on many waters - ie diversification, bonds and stocks and some gold and real estate etc etc

It will not turn around in a day or two. More like a year or so most likely.
You can’t time the market and you can’t out guess a panic like this. It is irrational.

Dividend Aristocrats will pay under almost all conditions and sell their children and borrow money before they miss a dividend. Learn to live on 3%. Pipelines are pretty good as well.
A lot of brokers are making a killing right now. Don’t feed the animals.
Stock price recovery will not directly hinge on any anticipated future medical recovery from a currently brewing global viral pandemic. Rather, it will happen when the various management teams of companies of global scope resolve their “black swan” (drastic and completely unexpected and unpredicted by analysts) problems of large scale personnel dislocation and smashed/upended materiel sourcing arrangements. The necessary supply chain reorganization will probably be complete well before the World Health Organization deems the Corona Virus pandemic under control.
