Haney got a special sly smile on his face when he said he took shorthand. He also said he’s a nerd who keeps everything. I’m guessing that he took pains to copy it carefully into longhand or on a regular typewriter.

OTOH, if the records were good enough for executive management to order their destruction, Haney knew they were of significant value in their original appearance; not so much so in short hand or freshly typed. To say nothing of Haney being in a hurry with the process.
