If you don’t have enough water to re hydrate meals, you are in serious trouble.

Good point. Happened to me while backpacking once.

We used a Berkey to filter our everyday water for a while. Works great and water tasted good!

You need to let us know how you plan to use it.

If you plan to be moving on foot for a while then food bars, a life straw and a camel back.

If you live in a urban area and want to hole up for a while you need MRE's or the single serving camp meals and several cases of water.

If you live in the burbs and plan to stay you will need a hand pump for water, some sort of cooking set up, dried food and a garden and at least some chickens.

If you live in the country you should already have the burb prep upsized so just stock up on what you can not grow. White flour (properly stored it last a long time) white rice, sugar, baking soda, salt and the caffeine delivery system of your choice.

What’s a volcano stove?

Is that like a rocket stove?

I can all my meat and store spices, nuts, beans etc in canning jarsin the freezer.

Yes I do have a fair amount of meat in the freezer, but the canned stuff will last much longer and through power outages.

One thing, do not buy dried green peas. Those suckers never soften.

It’s one of those things where experience breeds contemps.
Kind of like having lived in Yugoslavia, emigrating to the United States after the Berlin wall fell, and then having someone try to sell you a Yugo.

I might add ziploc bags. All sizes. Useful to keep things waterproof. Like soap and paper stuff.

See here:

I don’t know if they show you, but with only about 12 pieces of charcoal and a dutch oven, you can cook a full meal in a pot.

The actual MREs, like the ones they handed out after Hurricane Katrina, are frickin’ delicious! They come in all sorts of different flavors, spaghetti and meatsauce was my favorite, and usually a shake and some desert.

Eh, some are decent but some aren't good at all. Be glad they got rid of the old omelette one. Anyways, they have 24 different ones - A menu and B menu each have 12 different options.

MREs aren’t popularly known to GIs as “Meals Rejected by Ethiopians”, without just cause.

Personally, I’d have to be starving to eat even one more MRE.

Canned and dry goods (good water filtration to ensure that need).
Stock p with whatever you deem necessary and if SHDHTF (D=Doesn’t) rotate older items into regular diet and replace with fresh stock.

After you see what a volcano stove looks like, go to Goodwill and pick out some nice stainless steel vegetable pots with all the holes in them. Make your own cooker really cheap.
