An American Airlines passenger has divided social media after video-shaming a fellow traveller who 'punched' and pushed her seat when she reclined it.
The passenger, Wendi Williams, filmed the man - who was sitting in a seat behind her that didn't recline - on a flight from New Orleans to Charlotte.
She posted a clip of him continually nudging her seat to Twitter, but many on the social media site were conflicted about who was in the wrong and whether she should have even reclined her seat in the first place.

Eat time - no.
Sleep time - yes.
Flying ... it’s the new Greyhound.
I fly weekly and deal with this all the time. I look at it as if its a short flight there’s no need to recline your seat and severely restrict the persons space behind you. and certainly not while there is food and beverage service and the persons tray is down.
For long flights sure but be considerate and take into account the person behind you also.
Air travel is awful. They guy punching the seat should have reclined himself or bought a first class ticket for more room.
The seats recline for a reason. Until the airline stops making them recline, people will use them.
The courteous thing to do is to turn around and ask the person if theyd mind if you reclined. Just doing it is pretty rude. The reclining seats were designed before they decided to put twice as many seats on their airplanes.
If some bonehead started punching my seat because I reclined it a little, I’d recline it the rest of the way.
Thank (1) all the airlines for the room available between the seats, but (2) first thank the millions more people that want to fly and can afford to fly that the airlines are trying to accommodate with seats available on the flights.
It is a double edged sword. We would all like to recline more in our airlines seats, to be more comfortable, and if we all did we know we’d be leaning into the available space between the back of our seat and the next passenger, making them less comfortable.
If airlines don't want the seats to recline, they will stop putting reclining seats in a plane.
The only seats that don't recline are the seats in the last rows of a plane, and the seats in the row in front of the emergency exits. If people buy those seats, they know what they are getting and have no claims on the people in front of them.

That is how I feel. I don’t like it when the person in front of me reclines the seat, but...I know that is possible when I buy a ticket.
I don’t recline my seat generally unless it is a night flight with the lights out, but if someone does...I just bear it.
It sure as hell is.
Im six five and old
Any flight over an hour I fly forward cabin if possible..I just pay it and forget about it...even if its a ripoff
Any trip has a flight of an hour or less I drive
Yes but you need common sense in using
You dont own the space behind you of a large person
For long flights sure but be considerate and take into account the person behind you also.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Be considerate?
You must be kidding.
Lack of consideration is like a badge of honor for a lot of people these days.
I didn’t watch the video, but these two people were made for each other. One reclines out of lack of consideration, and the other turns to physicality and harassment instead of dealing with their issues by communicating effectively.
This thread will define the forum like it does people who fly
Courteous thoughtful folks versus assholes who do it just cause ..hey they can...they paid for it you know...so what if it crunches the person behind you
Which side will be more numerous here
Lol....that was easy...hit the button
This is up there on my list of pet peeves. Some people are just rude.
The airlines pack their passengers in like animals, so it oughtn’t to be surprising when some passengers start acting like animals. That being said, from what I read, she and he could have handled things better.
Yes but per the logic of many here and obviously on the plane
He paid for it and its just tough titty for you
I think its how folks were raised basically and some regional cultural mores
You can even claim ethnic and racial propensity to be more confrontational than others
If you dare
