I try to confine my ridicule to people in trusted positions - often elected - who defy their oaths and the trust we put in them, and to those who break the law and harm people in the process.

(And sometimes I make fun of pompous celebrities, who think their fame alone somehow makes them ‘smart’ and entitled to lecture the rest of us.)

But I don’t see any sense in ridiculing a person who simply may have had a poor education, or who lacks a gift for language.

(The particular situation that you suggest hasn’t shown up on my ‘radar’ - but I did enjoy ‘Amber Lamps’ - because it was mostly about the equanimity of the lady sitting there and ignoring the chaos with superb equanimity :-)

Sometimes you have to consider the source. Some people don’t mean to be demeaning, and I might use the wrong word (or not think of the exact word I want) and the listener means to be helpful. But you have a point, that some people, especially liberals, tend to be arrogant jerks.

In physical conversation, I tend not to correct people if they use the wrong word...only if there’s some confusion about the word and what they want (plywood vs OSB for example). I think the other person is usually embarrassed when they’re corrected, and I shy away from offending people. There’s slight embarrassment for me when somebody corrects me. I also realize, as I get older, it’s harder to find the right words, so I’m more than willing to overlook other’s incorrect word choices.
