It is tragic that pop culture is so richly rewarded.

I don’t find it tragic. In a way, pop culture is probably the most unifying thing we have as a country, outside of sports. When my wife (who is Colombian by background) asked me why I watched so many sports I told her ‘did it occur to you that sports IS America’s culture?’.

She looked kind of surprised at that. Now she’s a BIG fan of sports. And surprisingly, she loves Hockey the most, followed by Golf, Lacrosse and Basketball.

I haven't looked at the list of recipients over the past 20 years, but I suspect it would be short on people who have been instrumental in championing liberty and freedom (such as Rush). Those are my real heroes -- not people who sing, dance or throw a ball around. Those are the people who safeguard our most precious assets - the Constitution, liberty and freedom. Without them, we are lost.

I would hope there are many such people on the list of recipients. It is, after all, named the "Medal of Freedom."

There were TWO Medals of Freedom, you are thinking there is one. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is at the President’s discretion. The other one was what you are saying and was started by Truman.
