Mitt Romney Is The First Senator To Ever Vote To Convict A President From His Own Party

We have seen lots of strange things happen during President Trump’s time in the White House, and Mitt Romney added to that list on Wednesday when he voted to remove Trump from office. It was the first time in American history that a U.S. Senator has voted to convict a president that belongs to the same political party, and this probably marks the beginning of the end of Romney’s political career. Amazingly, Romney voted against Trump even though he knew that it would not affect the outcome of the vote. In fact, Romney knew that he was going to be the only Republican to vote against Trump and he still did it anyway.

There have been two other instances in which the U.S. Senate has voted to either convict or acquit a sitting president. In 1868, President Andrew Johnson would have been convicted if even a single member of his own party had voted against him. The following comes from the Washington Post…

Mitt has no party.

I disagree - MIttens is a member in good standing of the NeverTrump GOPe, while Donald Trump has created the average American's Republican party.

Agree completely. Read Alexander’s impeachment letter. Nearly all of them are toasting Romney in the “Senate cloak room” today. Guaranteed.

Will the Dems accept Mittens and his binder-full of women?

Mitt is really a democrat..

Mitt is really a worm. If he caucused with the Democrats he'd disappoint them too. He has no guiding principles - just an enormous amount of self-regard and a desire for attention.

So many are acting as though they didn’t see this coming from the moment he announced he was running for Senate.

“Romney is needed for JUDGES. He has supported ALL of Trumps picks.”

EXCUSE ME? 52/48 (the vote on Article one, by the way) is just as good as 53/47.

We don’t need no stinkin’ Mitt (Judas, Brutus, Benedict, Rosenberg) Romney!

FU Mitt, and the used car you drove in with.

Is there any way I can impeach my vote for president in 2012? 2008? (Mitt & Juan, brothers of a different mother)

The same “father of lies”.

Show he’s not a man of principle, just a man who has never stopped hating the man who won the Presidency that he, Romney could not obtain, and who then would not give Romney a job.

I get it.

Giving MORE power to Murkowski and Collins in a 52-48 split is even more frightening.

IF anything, I think allowing this childish snit will move Romney closer to McConnell who will tell Mitt the only way back is to approve Trump appointees to Courts and other offices.

ROMNEY being pushed to go full Democrat RETARD won’t help anything.

Mitt sold out for the favorable press. It is who he is. His dad was the same way.

That’s because Romney thinks he is a “god” -— not a puny Republican.

In 1868, President Andrew Johnson would have been convicted if even a single member of his own party had voted against him.

What was Johnson's party? I believe he had been a Democrat, but was elected VP on a National Unity ticket with Republican Abraham Lincoln. I don't think he was welcome in either party by 1868.

And why did the House impeach him in an election year? He obviously wasn't going to be reelected without a party endorsement, and probably would have been gone in a year anyway.

He’s using his same logic like when he bought all those companies and then they go out of business.

Self profit

The House impeached him because, like Trump, they just hated him.

Also the Rats need to paint the scarlet “I” on some Republican. Their reasoning ‘you impeached one of ours, now we will impeach one of yours!’. Reality of the situation doesn’t matter, the optics do! Now we both have impeached POTUS’s ! Yes its that petty!
