Slow as hell, can't get pages to come up,
are we facing another attack on the site?
Have to agree with your statement. Seems to happen when traffic would be expected to be heavy.
Big difference between the number of people on YouTube and those on FR. No comparison.
AOC to the customer with the $50.00. Sir that was not a fifty that was twenty. Here is your four dollars change.
I always hated that series and HATED that ugly robot and the arch-villain Whatshisname.
Yes, that’s true about the bandwidth.
If the FR problem is attacks and not bandwidth, I hope some clever Freepers can come up with a solution.
Very slow in Baltimore. Progress bar just o-o-z-i-n-g rightward whenever I change pages. This problem was on other websites as well, but markedly on FR. Is someone fooling around with the internet period?
My guess too.
I’m glad you guys can identify and see what’s going on and more importantly, be able to knock them down.
Apparently the socialists are choosing this to be the new normal.
I understand, but Jim needs updates etc. to keep from being hacked, hopefully.
Regardless
ALL OUT THERE. PLEASE DONATE!
A difference in volume, but the 'bandwidth', so to speak, is at the same percent per volume.
FR is set for the optimum based on the volume and so is YOUTUBE. Neither is set to handle EVERY USER all at once. Look at the OBAMACARE website. When too many tried to access it at the same time, boom. Remember during emergencies, back before the internet, everyone tried to use the phone at once and people couldn't make calls
Same reason. No one has unlimited port connection. The system won't allow it. The system depends on a more chaotic , or random spread of connections from users to various 'sites'.
To me it's like what will happen tomorrow.
There will be 800,000 people cram into DOWNTOWN KC. The streets will be jammed or blocked.
Sure, we could build highways and streets so that IF and WHEN we had another Superbowl Win, that the streets would be clear and traffic would move quickly everywhere. But.... that would cost about a trillion dollars and only be useful in rare cases (so far, only needed twice in 50 years). Nobody would ever even consider doing so.
So...I understand when FR slows down or stops.
Not true. It's a result of hardware limitations.
Do you know what it takes to connect a private server farm to the internet ? Do you know how many 'connections' it allows ?
I'll make it simpler. What happens when there is a panic on buying gasoline and everyone goes to the pumps at the same time ?
Are the long lines the fault of the gas station for not having 100 pumps instead of 8 ?
FR is hosted at NTT Communications (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) in the San Jose/Santa Clara CA area. Jim & John’s private server in their data center with NTT’s bandwidth, etc..

No attack. FR always falters and sputters when there’s a huge live event like the SOTU address. Always has.
Wonder how many times refresh gets hit during the speech, per minute.
>> Did FR get the Iowa Caucus programmer?
The Shadow knows...
No attack. FR always falters and sputters when theres a huge live event like the SOTU address. Always has.
Jim says differently:
Yes, they hit us hard just as the speech started. Looks like theyve adapted to our defenses and have adjusted their attack strategies. John will post on it later tonight. Looks like were getting better response now.
My guess is FR is susceptible to simple DDOS attacks that it shouldn’t be susceptible to. Why this would be I don’t know. I’m not enough of an IT techie.
Also, I don’t get why a website with a known member list can’t mitigate these attacks by simply prioritizing data requests from member IPs above unknown IPs. In that case, non-member lurkers might experience a slowdown but logged-in members wouldn’t. And if you really wanted to get serious about it, prioritize dues paying member IPs.
The whole thing just does not add up to me.
Very good suggestions, Yardstick.
And UCAN, I guess you’ve seen the comments that it was not a bandwidth issue, but was an attack. I’ve never had issues with YouTube, the Treehouse, or many other websites, but thanks for adding your thoughts into the mix.
Saw that too. However, you can see the energy and life hit his face after being awarded the medal.
