As I understand ... law suits are paid for by the taxpayer ... how is this a deterrent ?
I imagine it is a stain on the officer’s record. Some will care, some won’t.
Lawsuits are paid by insurance companies. Theyll simply refuse issue policies to jurisdictions that continue behaving this way.

As a Florida resident, I have not noticed this as a big problem but if it is I approve of taking strong action.
I know most rural sheriffs support gun rights.
Can go after them personally. Especially if govt fires them.
LEO here in FL. I dont see that this is a issue. Never really was. Although the department of veterans affairs always call our dispatch as asked us to look for their patients who do not show up for appts. Some times the VA goes full retard and has a physician place a Baker Act on the patient. Telling us these veterans are suicidal and armed. This is becoming a big problem. I put our department stats two years ago on this we were called to over 380 calls for this issue. We are working on this now to get them to knock this off.
>I know most rural sheriffs support gun rights.
The problem is: ...until they don’t
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Red flag laws are being used far more in Florida, by several multiples, on the flimsiest basis.
Their problem is: ...we all know where they live. We all know where they eat, shop, hunt, and vacation. They aren’t invisible and they’d best realize who voted them into office.
I don’t see it as an issue yet. I do see good cops coming after good citizens as ordered by low life politicians.
How many willingly complied?
I would like to think that most LEO’s can tell in about 10-20 seconds whether someone is a
problem or not.
About time to turn the enemy’s tactics on themselves...
“I know most rural sheriffs support gun rights.”
Yeah, but then you have to contend with schlamazels like that former Broward County fool.
However, all the Chief LEO and his Association needs to do is convince the judge in a civil case to declare that the officer has and retains qualified immunity.
Sir Robt Peal, did you envision this?
I am encouraged you don’t see this as an issue. Might be one county, like Broward?
