Why Texans Don’t Want Any More Californians
The Atlantic ^ | 01/31/2020 | Derek Thompson

Across a frightened nation divided by politics and culture, a fragile harmony is ascendant, as Americans in small towns and large cities alike cry out in trembling unison: Hey, where did all these Californians come from?

Talk of a “California Exodus” is sweeping the country—and so are anxieties about its effects on the rest of the West. In October, the Boise mayoral candidate Wayne Richey proposed at an election forum to build a $26 billion wall to keep out people moving from the Golden State. (His backup plan to stop the invasion of Boise? "Trash the place.”) A viral Wall Street Journal article recounted the plight of a small Idaho town buckling under the stress of thousands of inbound Californians. And this month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a warning on Twitter to Californians moving to his state: “Remember those high taxes, burdensome regulations, & socialistic agenda advanced in CA? We don't believe in that.” The sentiment was echoed in various warnings in Dallas newspapers about the awful “California-ing” of North Texas.

If you move to a new state, there should be a law or rule that you cannot vote locally until at least 15 years have elapsed.

That time ought to get the invaders acclimated.

Here in FL the problem is New Yorkers and other New England states invading us and wanting to change us. Liberals are a plague.

But people in Tx don’t mind selling their homes and taking the money from people coming from CaCa. This former CaCa residence had no problem avoiding Tx as I’ve experienced their horrific heat and punitive humidity in that state. I can deal with summer heat, but not the uninhabitable dripping sweltering humidity.

Texas invited them in. Remember all the billboards and ad campaigns Texas ran in California inviting people to move there? I do.

The problem in Florida is that it was the New Yorkers who snowbirded to South Florida in the 1960s and 1970s who built it up into what it is today.

That generation died off and left their homes to their children, who probably sold them to the immigrant generation that followed as they moved west and north.

The Miami Beach of Jackie Gleason became South Beach. The intracoastal waterway of Florida homes became the intracoastal waterway of the rich and famous.

The people who live there today aren't connected to the people who lived there 50 years ago when Tamarac, Sunrise, Lauderhill, Plantation, Hollywood, were first being paved.

And the New Yorkers return. However, they aren't the same New Yorkers of 50 years ago who "settled" South Florida to the Everglades.

Just my opinion as someone who went to high school there.

Even though I moved from California to Texas after 30 years, I give myself a pass because I lived in Texas before I moved to California 35 years ago.

Good luck Texans. The once, great conservative states of Washington and Oregon are prime examples of what happens after you’ve been Californicated!

We in Florida have had this problem with New Yorkers and New Jerseyites for a generation or two now.

There may well be some conservative ones leaving too but we got an awful lot of Leftists - far more than conservative leaning folks. They have come close to turning Florida purple though its still red thank goodness.

Liberals are like locusts - they leave behind the devastation they caused and move to fresh areas to wreak more devastation. California was “Reagan Country” when I was a kid, as conservative as Texas is now.

When these folks say “Californians” they need to identify the ethnicity.

Non-Hispanic white residents of California consistently vote around 55% for Republicans and for Conservative issues.

One problem...

Only 37% of California residents are non-Hispanic whites.

Oh, I know.

I wasn’t referencing my own attitude but that of a stereotypical New York City denizen. One even referenced in Futurama where the only apartment found during their search that wasn’t either rent controlled or a hazard to life and limb was in New Jersey.

Frankly there’s probably some upstate New York folks thinking “no!” at the suggesting that more Leftwingers move to the state.

I’ll inform everyone what the REAL PROBLEM IS:

WATER !!! kookafornia, new york come to Texas and want to play flog, either in their own yard or a full tilt 18 hole damned flog course. So they come to Texas and start watering the grass that came from a Grass Farm to try to make it grow !!! Now it is possible to force grass to grow in Texas, but it takes A LOT OF IT !!!

Texas has plant life that grows just fine as long as one doesn’t try to mess with the Cacti, Junipers, Scrub Brush, Mesquite and Rocks. (BTW the Rocks grow best due to less Water required.)

Having spent 10 years in the Water Treatment Plants, both in the country and in cities Water is a dwindling resource. I’ve worked at Plants ranging from 1 MGD (Million Gallons a Day) up to 35 MGD. People are wasteful and many think that if they have the money to pay the bill then that means there is an unlimited supply of water for their flog yard and the hell with everyone else and their yards. People take water for granted... until there’s none available !!! Then what happens? I’ll tell ya, the phone number for the Water Treatment Plant is suddenly on Speed dial and it’s ALL OUR FAULT because there’s no water!!!
