I cant remember ever seeing this much global panic about a virus. The bird flu outbreak that we witnessed a number of years ago definitely shook people up, and the ebola scare received a lot of attention for a short period of time, but this coronavirus pandemic is already on an entirely different level. Despite the fact that there is an impeachment trial happening in Washington right now, this pandemic has dominated headlines day after day, and many experts are warning that what we have seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg. It appears that this virus spreads very, very easily from person to person, and it is nothing like getting the cold or the flu. One leaked video from a hospital in Wuhan, China actually shows a victim shaking uncontrollably and writhing all over
A helpless coronavirus victim is seen shaking uncontrollably on a hospital bed in China as the death toll in the county rises to 56.
The disturbing clip, which was uploaded on to Twitter, shows a woman holding the head of the patient as he or she appears to be having a fit under a blanket.
Others surrounding the trolley are wearing protective masks as the victim is seen writhing all over.

Neighbors get them at my cost, thru Amazon Prime.
Can’t hurt, but not a solution:
N95 respirators filter out most airborne particles from the surrounding air, preventing wearers from breathing in particles down to 0.3 microns in diameter. These types of masks are often used when air quality is poor due to wildfire smoke or pollution, and they’re designed to fit tightly against one’s face. However, the coronavirus measures 0.12 microns in diameter.
Bet they were made in China!

Not the 3M N95 masks.

Good to know!
That’s where ours are from. The ones we got, yesterday, and the ones we’ve had for about a year (I stocked up, for all of my to-do list painting projects).
Ski goggles?
I might help around the margins. I never said it was fool proof. Better than nothing.
BTW, a Chinese woman came to work in an office in New York today wearing a surgical mask. She sits at the desk next to me.
Yesterday, I saw a Chinese man walking down Seventh Avenue around 30th Street wearing a mask.
As far as I can tell, it appears all the drug stores in New York City have been stripped of surgical masks.
“They are just brain-dead.”
Mmmmm, brains!
Yesterday at Home Depot I bought two boxes of 40 3m brand. The shelf was full when I left. However, there were 3 people of Chinese descent browsing all the different varieties. They didnt have a shopping cart so I assume they werent going to buy all of them. They obviously know the score though.
You’re a good neighbor.
I am skeptical that a particular brand of N95 mask is significantly more efficacious for a particular filtration milieu than others, beyond the N vs. P vs. surgical designation. I think it is mostly a matter of being able to claim testing in marketing. I guess we need a Consumer Reports lab to test and rate them. I am of the camp that anything you can do to reduce the viral load is desirable. If your full hazmat suit with coworkers to disinfect and help take down reduces the load by 100% , that's great, you're fortunate. If all the rest of us can attain is 80% over no protection at all, I'll take that.
Being from Chicago, and immune suppressed, I’ve been staying inside as often as possible. I’m also ready to break out the gas mask, but mostly for giggles.
The look on people’s faces; it’d be too precious.
Or you could avoid it, until they figure out how to treat it or even better come up with a vaccine.
+1
I read on a medical website yesterday that alcohol must be 90% to be effective.
“This is how zombie outbreaks begin...”
shortage of N95 masks, right?
“The hysteria and kookery is spreading faster than the actual virus.”
that’s because hysteria and kookery spread at nearly the speed of light ...
To slow the spread of the virus, thus giving our biomedical industry time to develop a vaccine for those at greatest risk. However, if getting through this as fast as possible is what we want, Its Party Time Dude ! Kinda like in that Matrix movie when the machines had found them and were burrowing into their homes?
I don't think it was her. I think it was me, but I am not certain. Where is your barn located?

Above is a link to a paper on transmission of a flu virus. They use the term um (well , the u is the micro symbol) - so it is in micro-meters, or microns.
I was trying to find out how much of what is inhaled is a virus attached to a dust particle. I skimmed the paper but didn’t see that.
It does say though that a flu virus will have all sorts of different sizes (so maybe it is attached to dust?). Or perhaps droplets, vapor, etc. Anyway, they did experiments of the various sizes, and most of it was on the larger size. With a smaller percentage being the smaller ones that can get sucked deep into the lungs.
I think that was the paper that also talks about how you need a flu virus to reach a certain number of viruses in the air to be considered a large risk.
So bottom line as far as I can tell, anything you can do to limit exposure is helpful.
