“Doesn’t like dogs”. … I’m always suspicious of someone or culture (Islam) that doesn’t like dogs.

There was once speculation that he would get a dog so Barron could have one. Then he said he will find out if Barron likes the dog they were going to get. Then total silence.
I love dogs. The only thing that brought me close to nearly breaking my obsession with seeing Bill Clinton brought to justice was when he said the death of his dog was the hardest thing he faced in office. A dingbat woman at the White House in charge of taking care of the dog irresponsibly let him go and he was hit by a car and killed. Bill was inconsolable for a long time.
Recently I believe people felt closer to AOC when she got her French bulldog Deco. (Not so much on FR).

I love dogs but for years did not get one. Dogs cause a lot of extra work (mine tracked in mud twice yesterday) for neatness freaks like me and require time and attention (something he focuses elsewhere).
If he was raised with parents who found dogs to be dirty/messy, then he would not develop a fondness for them. Further, as busy as he is, it would be irresponsible of him to own one just to be a photo prop.

I would imagine a licky dog might be low on his list of things he wants.
