Today, the United States spends more than $100 billion on policing each year. Cities often spend anywhere from 30 to 50 percent of their total budgets toward policing, and some exceed $1 billion. There are more than 12,300 local police departments in the United States and 468,000 sworn, full-time officers with arresting power, a 34 percent increase since 1987.
While politicians have often painted the rise in police officers as improving public safety, the truth is that the escalation of mass policing — police personnel, resources and police contact — has produced persistent harassment, arrest and soaring rates of police violence in black communities, as well as other communities of color.

Let’s get some perspective. The biggest item in government is Medicaid, both state and federal shares of it. In almost every state, Medicaid is the most expensive item in the budget.
The salaries of both teachers and police are lower than they should be because so much of the money is going to Medicaid.
Yes, there are Police who behave badly. Yes, there are Teachers who behave badly. But let’s get some perspective.
Oh, Really? Pray tell us where (backed by facts) this unjustified police activity is occurring. Just give us some "fer instances" that have occurred where the police, by routine practices, have gotten away with such illegal action.
If more people carried, there would be less need for state revenue generators.

Sure, abolish police,what could possibly go wrong? The “Wild West” and anarchy in real life is quite horrifying. It takes less than 24 hours after any SHTF for society to go feral. America already has no go zones. The left wants to turn America into a sh*thole.
Cut police budget, but increase National Guard budget.
Simple equations:
Just pouring money into public schools does not result in better education.
Just pouring money into police departments does not result in better policing.
But the two situations have very different solutions. Public schools need competition, from charter, religious, and private schools and home schooling.
The public needs to realize that they, the public, are the real police. Each and every honest citizen. The uniformed police are specialized to do several jobs well. So the way for the uniformed police to do a better job is for the public to do those policing jobs that they can do better, and let the police do what they do better.
The Compost wants anarchy so when people start defending themselves from the criminals they unleashed on us they can scream that WE are lawless and round up our guns.
I tend to agree with your assessment....cutting the police manpower by half. I might keep detectives around at the current level. But there is no real data to support the idea that ‘just’ having more police, means more safety and security. There is evidence that if you put career criminals in prison for the remainder of their life...crime does lessen. There’s even evidence that if you frisk people...crime does lessen.
There was some professor doing an interview about a decade ago, and talking over the 1920s....where the quantity of police surged big-time in this period of prohibition, and what they found was....the police arrived to their new jobs and all this crime, and simply became part of the crime complex in all major US cities. Actual control of crime never occurred. Once prohibition ended, there was no need to maintain the high number of police, but they continued on....as if nothing happened.
