Something about the way the story omits critical names, such as the politician who allegedly blocked the investigation, that makes me leery (I’ll admit to a low leery threshold). A powerful senator from 27 years ago is likely to be dead by now. He could be identified without much risk of libel charges if worded correctly. The brother writing the appeal might believe it’s all true, but Rod Hotham was indicted for a $4 million fraud scheme. Maybe he was framed; maybe he took a powder. He had supposedly been to the Cayman Islands investigating dirty accounts, which suggests he knew about hiding $$ there and knew the ropes in the Caribbean.
That would be true of someone who was investigating corruption as well. Not really a big secret that the Cayman Islands banks held money belonging to crooks.
