Evidently this box was given to the inappropriate person. The appropriate person would have just quietly accepted the bonus and shut up about it (assuming legally able to own said item).

What if the gun was used in a homicide? I would report it.
The mentality of “I found it, I’m keeping it” is not always the right thing to do.
Unless it was used in a driveby or other criminal activity...
I’d not want it fingering me to something I didn’t do.
