"The View" host Joy Behar told Democrats to not tell Americans their plans for gun control and to wait to take away firearms until after they are elected on Monday.
The panel was discussing the recent dropouts of the 2020 Democratic primary and who might be next after former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke ended his campaign on Friday.
"Beto, when my husband told me he got out of the race, I think he’s actually like a beta test for why going so national and being beloved by the media is so dangerous," host Meghan McCain said.
McCain said despite how much he had raised during the Texas Senate race and the large amount of staff he got for his presidential run, his chances were killed when he proposed a mandatory compensated confiscation of AR-15s and revoking religious institutions' tax exempt status if they didn’t support same-sex marriage.
"So he did a lot of, like, battleground culture war, and he ran as the most left, most woke candidate and look where he ended."
"They should not tell everything they’re going to do. Like if you are going to take people’s guns away, wait until you get elected and then take the guns away. Don’t tell them ahead of time," Behar replied.
By the way, that’s what people like me think you’re going to do, so I appreciate his honesty," McCain said.
O'Rourke's campaign struggled to gain any momentum despite calling to get rid of AR-15s and AK-47s. By the time he dropped out, he polled at an average of 1.6 percent. According to RealClearPolitics, his highest average polling was in April at 9.5 percent.
O'Rourke said he will not run for Senate against Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

Those estimated 400,000,000 firearms serve many good purposes. The first of which ( as intended by our nation’s founders) is to defend ourselves against another king George ( anyone seeking to impose a dictatorship or deny our citizens’ rights and liberties). Joy would do well to take note

The Behar strategy is sound. Not that it would work, but it’s tactically smarter than what Beto pulled. For instance, I would love for Republicans to never once mention defunding NPR, but once elected, just pull the plug on it.
