Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, the managing contractor at the Savannah River Site, is looking to hire hundreds and hundreds of people in the months ahead.
SRNS President and CEO Stuart MacVean on Monday, speaking to the Aiken Rotary Club, said he expects to hire about 1,000 people in fiscal year 2020. The federal government's fiscal year is a 12-month period beginning Oct. 1.
"So we're going to grow that population right back to where the site has been, traditionally, for about 20 years, at about the 12,000-person mark," MacVean said, presenting alongside former SRNS chief Chuck Munns, a retired Navy vice admiral and current adviser to the U.S. energy and defense departments.

Many thanks to Savannah River plant for all the goodies they gave my family: cancers, autoimmune diseases, extra bones, missing bones, spina bifida occulta, Graves Disease, heart defects - oh yeah, it’s the gifts that keep on coming after 3 generations.
Not saying it’s not a good thing to get jobs, but are these kinds of benefits worth receiving? Can’t ask my father who worked there nor my mother who was exposed to the radiation when he was contaminated & brought it home - they’re gone now.
The surrounding areas is nice. Aiken is a charming town. But I visited SR once. Even if its a good place to work, it’s a miserable looking facility. Kind of reminded me of those old insane asylums in B-horror flicks. Sadly, its hard for me not to judge a book by its cover.
Isn’t SR the only nuke in the nation that supplies tritium for our H-bomb arsenal?
I believe so.
I’m sorry, did I say 3 generations? I meant 4.
My grandchildren are now blessed with autoimmune disorders - and they aren’t even past the age of 12 yet.
Watts Bar in TN is now producing tritium for weapons.
