In many respects, the New York Yankees just completed an extraordinary decade. Over the past 10 regular seasons, they won 921 games, more than any other team in baseball. They made the playoffs seven timesno other team played into October more often.
The 2010s were a success by every measurethat is, except for the only one their fans actually care about: winning the World Series.
New Yorks season-ending defeat to the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series on Saturday means that for the first time since the 1910s, they have gone a full calendar decade without so much as appearing in the World Series.

despite what some fans and most sportswriters seem to think, winning the world series is incredibly difficult.
>>Over the past 10 regular seasons, they won 921 games, more than any other team in baseball.
Commissioner Hillary says that means they win the championship title for all 10 years.
Would not have mattered this year
Yankees still finished behind the Astros
And where are NY pro baseball Fans going to go? Is the Mets peformance better?
Are the NY Yankees Owners/Parntners not making money? Do the networks keep supplying enough ad revenue? (Yankees get the most ad revenue of all the teams)
Maybe in all the ways that matter, at the end of the day, winning the world series isn’t everything.
I predict twenty years from now the NY Yankees will not have suceeded any better on the playing field than they have in the last ten years, will still be the top earner in ad revenue and will still be owned by a Steinbrenner.
“Winning” per say, does not fund expendtitures, on new players or whatever. Ad revenue doea.

I'd prefer to know what the owners net profits have been during this period... The purpose of a business (in capitalist system) is to earn profits... As long as those keep on rolling in, most everything else is secondary...
As Ive said many times ... A team built to win 100 games and draw 3 million fans in a season is rarely the same team that is built to win 3 out of 5 games or 4 out of 7 games in a post-season series. We saw it with the Braves in the 1990s, the Yankees over the last decade, and the Dodgers in the last couple of years.
Same with the Dodgers...
You had to bring up the Braves. :(
We had a better record than the Nats and beat them head to head over 19 games in the season.... but no.......
I had to witness live the Braves get demolished in game 5 against the red birds. 26 minutes of pure torture.
Only 114 days until Spring Training - http://www.springtrainingcountdown.com/
But profited how many billions. This is a team just starting to come into its own. Like Houston on 16 and the Cubs of 15. Add more starting pitching and refine the lineup, they win 110+ games.
This will be the first time the World Series is between two expansion clubs (started in 1961 or later).
Since New York City and Washington are probably the two most extreme centers of Trump Derangement Syndrome, I'm glad that the World Series is not between the Yankees and the Nationals.
I think Dick Cheney went to the first game the Nationals played at home after they moved from Montreal...and was booed by the fans.
And?
The last time that happened was 100 years ago, in the 1910s. What happened after that?
One of the players who just went cold in the ALCS. Who would you have put out there?
They should have walked Altuve.
Actually it happened in the 1980s as well.
Why was Stanton on the roster if they weren’t going to use him? They could hve given that roster spot to a lefthanded hitter like Tauchman, Ford, or Wade, who could have played and helped them.
They sure won a lot in late 90s
