They were not “rounded up” but shot where they stood. And not just students, but passers-by, people on buses returning home from work, people in their apartments and on balconies, reporters, local troops as well. They fired armor piercing rounds continuously for 48 hours with AK47s and .50 heavy machine guns. All hospitals where closed - except open only for the Mountain troops.
When the Mountain troops were finished, they used tracked vehicles to reduce the bodies to mush, bulldozed them into piles, set the piles on fire, and washed the burnt remains down the sewers.
Official number is around 2,500 - those that couldn’t otherwise be disappeared. Actually count was well over 10,000 murdered.
