Based on the number of articles written about them, two of the great questions of our time are: Why do Republicans stick with Donald Trump? And what happened to all the Never Trump people? In recent days, The New York Times has published items about each of them.
In polls, the vast majority of Republicans have consistently given Trump their approval for the job he is doing even as tariffs and the deficit have risen, even as he rages on Twitter, even as evidence of abuse of power has mounted. His support among conservatives has actually increased over time. During the 2016 primaries, my colleagues at National Review ran a cover package in which various conservatives made the case against Trump. Many of the writers are now behind him.
Yet none of this should really be all that puzzling.
The conservative criticisms of Trump in 2016 fell into four categories. Some on the right thought that nominating Trump meant blowing the election. Some worried that given his history of liberal positions on everything from taxes to abortion, he would not govern as a conservative. Some opposed the positions he was continuing to take on specific issues such as trade, immigration and entitlements. And some felt that his character his dishonesty, his lack of self-control, his pettiness, his penchant for bigoted statements made him unfit for office.
These arguments were often jumbled together. But two of the criticisms have fallen away. Trump won, and then he governed the way conservative voters wanted on the issues they care most about. He cut taxes, appointed originalist judges to the Supreme Court and federal appeals courts, imposed few new regulations and rolled back some old ones. His administration has done nearly everything opponents of abortion have asked.

What abuse of power, Ramesh?
You can’t just drop a bon mot and leave.

There is no evidence. Just fake news narratives from left wing parasites.
The only so-called Republican I know that didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 and won’t again in 2020 is from Vermont.

But when Trump mentions Hunter the allegations are unsubstantiated. LOL.
The tariffs have been working as intended. Our industrial base is growing, more people are working, and we are taking in billions. I even heard we are running a surplus. However, while the left holds the house, it is not reasonable to think that the deficit will decrease. (I do not know how we can run a deficit at the same time as a surplus, but I have heard both in the news recently.) What the author describes as rage is actually Trump fighting bac against those who slander hima trait that Conservatives love, after seeing so-called conservatives roll over and apologize every time the left criticizes them. Last, the only abuse of power we have seen is from the left. The House has gone rogue and is maneuvering to take over and dissolve our Constitutional Republic.

There's also a Lehighton (PA) Times-News.

I hope none of us are good "Republicans," who are obviously as corrupt as Ol' Quid Pro. They are all in on the same game. Robbing the taxpayers blind.
I continue to maintain that Trump isn’t and never has been an ideological conservative of any persuasion, whether cultural, fiscal or otherwise. Trump is just an American with a wealth of business experience who’s discovered what works and what doesn’t, which is why he’s been so successful. Moreover, now that he’s becoming more familiar with the Constitution, he has the inherent intelligence to recognize that what our forefathers created for us makes a great deal of sense. He governs and formulates policy on that basis and I’m good with that.

Over and over again without ever saying what it is!-)
